There are four kinds of traditional goldfish in China: grass goldfish, dragon goldfish, egg goldfish and cultured goldfish.

The grass goldfish is the golden crucian carp. Although it has always been cultivated with different colors (mainly red and white flowers), all the grass golden crucian carp on the market now are orange, which is sometimes easily confused with koi fish.

The dragon goldfish is represented by dzi beads. The eyes of the dragon goldfish protrude from the eye socket, and the abdomen is slightly slender than other goldfish. Twenty years ago, the back of the dzi beads was flat, and their eyes were more like two abacus beads. Now, the common dzi beads on the market are like two light bulbs because they cross with Japanese goldfish. The dzi beads, the lion's head and the eye-watching all belong to this category. Arowana is probably the most cultured goldfish at present.

The representative of egg goldfish is blisters. The biggest feature of eggs is that they have no dorsal fins and are as smooth as arches. The abdomen is egg-shaped, which is probably why it is called an egg! All kinds of blisters, tiger heads and Feng Dan all belong to this category.

The representatives of goldfish breeding are hats and pearls. Its characteristic is that its mouth is a little sharp and its tail fin is open on four pages, which looks like the word "Wen", so it is called. All kinds of hats, pearls (pearls are characterized by small head and tail and round belly like pearls) and wenyu all belong to this category.

Knowing the variety of goldfish allows us to choose goldfish according to its variety characteristics. Because most common goldfish on the market now belong to large-scale culture in pits and ponds, the density is relatively large, so most of them are slender, but you can still pick out good fish through careful selection.

First of all, we should pay attention to the health status of goldfish when choosing goldfish. First of all, it depends on whether the fish is sick or not and whether the fins are damaged. Even the best fish, such as white spots, cotton-wool white spots, a faint white film, scales falling off, blood spots and spots on the body, pink ulcers, and fish scales stretching like pinecones, are all sick fish and are dying. Golden fins can be regenerated after being damaged, and the newly grown fins are almost colorless, which will gradually be consistent with other undamaged parts of the fins, but you can still tell them when you look closely, but buying fish is like moving fish. At this time, the fish is weak and needs to adapt to the new environment, which is easy to cause infection, so it is not advisable to choose goldfish with damaged fins.

The second point is to look at the mental state of the fish and see if the fish live in groups. Generally, fish that swim alone are sick. If you want to choose from fish, you'd better choose a fish that swims while foraging at the bottom of the basin or tank. This should be no problem. There are also fish that shake their heads and don't move much when swimming. This kind of fish is either tired or ill, so it is not suitable for selection.

The third point is to see whether the fish is symmetrical, completely symmetrical left and right, and whether it conforms to the characteristics of species. Dzi beads, blistered eyes must not be one big and one small; The smaller the tail of pearl fish, the better, and the big tail is wrong; Look at the sky with your eyes completely upward and your eyes should be golden; The more developed the sarcoma of the lion's head, the better. When picking goldfish, you should pick fat ones, and slender goldfish have low ornamental value. When picking fish in spring, you can pick smaller ones and raise them yourself. Now you can often see oversized goldfish on the market. The growth of goldfish is mainly in the first year of life, and the goldfish in the second year is generally limited. Too big goldfish is not good, which is an important reason for short life. The life span of goldfish fed under normal conditions is 18 years.

Finally, I want to talk about Japanese goldfish. Since goldfish was introduced to Japan in the late Ming Dynasty, Japan has cultivated many kinds of goldfish. However, due to the differences in aesthetic psychology of different nationalities, from the Chinese point of view, the ornamental value of Japanese goldfish is low, except for Liu Jin, who is close to wenyu, but his abdomen protrudes more, his body color is bright and his fins grow up.
