1. Do you like watching cartoons?

2. What is your favorite cartoon?

3. Why do you like it?

2b

When people talk about "culture", we (first) think of art and history. But a very famous icon of American culture is cartoons. We all know and love Mickey Mouse, the black mouse with the big, round ears, who first appeared in the cartoon "Steamboat Willie" more than 80 years ago. When the cartoon was released in New York on November 18, 1928, it became the first cartoon with sound and music. The man behind Mickey is named Walt Disney. He was successful and very wealthy. In the 1930s, he made 87 cartoons using Mickey Mouse.

Some may ask how this cartoon animal became so popular. One of the main reasons is that Mickey is like an ordinary person, but he always goes all out when faced with danger. In his earlier films, Mickey was unlucky and often encountered many problems, such as losing his house and his girlfriend Minnie. However, he was always willing to do his best. People go to theaters to see this "little man" win. Most of them want to be like Mickey.

On November 18, 1978, Mickey became the first cartoon character to be inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Today's cartoons are usually not as simple as Mickey Mouse, but everyone still knows and loves him.

Who has a more famous pair of ears than Mickey’s?

2d

1. What does Mickey Mouse symbolize? What cartoon character is a symbol of Chinese culture?

2. Do you think Walt Disney is a smart man? Why or why not? Do you want to be like him?

3. Why do people want to be like Mickey? Do you want to be like Mickey? Why or why not?

4. Can you think of another cartoon character as famous as Mickey? Why is this cartoon character popular?

3a

"Mulan" is a wonderful action movie. It comes from an ancient Chinese story. This film is about Hua Mulan, a girl from a mountain village. She dressed up as a boy and joined the army to fight for her father. I think the actress played the role of Mulan quite successfully. The other actors in the film are also great and they all do a great job. I like Mulan very much. The film showcases her love for family, friends and country. If you're going to the movies this weekend and you want to watch something enjoyable, choose Mulan!
