What is Gastroenterology?

Gastroenterology is a third-level clinical discipline that mainly studies diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, liver, gallbladder and pancreas. There are many types of gastrointestinal diseases, a wide range of medical knowledge, and complex and delicate operations.

Trained physicians in the Department of Gastroenterology must obtain internal medicine specialist qualifications (or receive standardized training as internal medicine residents) before they can accept this stage of training. The training phase for gastroenterologists lasts for 3 years.

Digestive diseases are divided into 5 parts: gastrointestinal diseases, liver diseases, pancreatobiliary diseases, endoscopy and other diseases.
