The following is a summary of the last two World University Games:

1,1August 199719th,19th The Universiade was held in Catania, Sicily, Italy. More than 6,000 athletes from 160 countries and regions participated in track and field, swimming, diving, tennis, fencing, football, basketball, volleyball, water polo, gymnastics (including rhythmic gymnastics) and other 10 events. The top three medals are the United States (20 gold 19 silver and 22 bronze), Ukraine (17 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze) and Japan (14 gold and 8 silver1bronze).

China sent 1 16 athletes to participate in eight events except swimming and water polo, and won 10 gold medal, 9 silver medals and 7 bronze medals, ranking fifth.

2. From July 3rd to13rd, the 20th Universiade was held in Palma, Spain. 5776 athletes from 1 14 countries participated in 12 events: track and field, swimming, judo, sailing, diving, tennis, fencing, football, basketball, volleyball, water polo and gymnastics. Results The United States led the gold medal list with 30 gold medals, 19 silver medals and 15 bronze medals, while Russia ranked second with 14 gold medals, 18 silver medals and 12 bronze medals.

Cuba ranked third with 12 gold, 3 silver and 12 bronze medals. Japan ranked fourth with 1 1 gold medal, 13 silver medal and 17 bronze medal. China sent 174 athletes to participate in 9 events other than sailing, football and water polo, and won 9 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 10 bronze medals, ranking fifth.

The Universiade did not break any world record, only 10 world record. The reason may be related to the strong impact of professionalization and commercialization of competitive sports since the mid-1980s. Some top athletes began to take part in the Universiade without paying the appearance fee.

However, the International University Sports Federation was published in July, 1999. According to statistics, since the 1990s, the World Universiade has still reached a fairly high level. Just like the 1960s and 1980s, many Olympic stars first made their mark at the Universiade. Now many athletes who won gold medals at the Olympic Games and many others are good players who participated in the Universiade.

In192 Barcelona Olympic Games and196 Atlanta Olympic Games, outstanding college athletes who participated in the competitions organized by the International University Sports Federation won 80 gold medals, 84 silver medals and 62 bronze medals.

Among the athletes who stepped onto the Olympic podium from the Universiade were track and field athletes michael johnson and mike powell, basketball players larry bird, charles barkley and Arvydas Sabonis, cyclist Jenny Longo, fencer giovanna trillini and gymnast vitol Saab.

Although the International University Sports Federation denied the shadow of the gradual decline in the level of the Universiade in the face of news media comments, how to attract top athletes by reasonable commercial operation and improve their appreciation level and overall sports events is really 2 1 century, and the key is to continue to run the World University Games well.
