synopsis
Stephen Chow tried to combine his funny skills with the black comedy of horror movies. Director Liu Zhenwei speculated on the theme of his early works, such as Ghosts in the Hall and other similar films, which described a haunted house and village, while neurotic Stephen Chow dealt with ghosts as a master ghost catcher, thus creating a series of absurd and surreal jokes. The film is obviously rough in production, but it is quite clever in script design and characterization. Through many comic situations, the mysterious theme of "everything is possible and nothing is afraid" is expressed. By extension, this can even be regarded as a political fable for Hong Kong's future. The poor response of this film when it was released in Taiwan Province Province should be related to its special "Hong Kong feelings" not being accepted by local audiences.
