What is the difference between Pixiu and Pixiu?

There is no difference between Pi Huan and Pi Xiu.

Pixiu, also known as Pixiu, is one of China's three most auspicious beasts for attracting wealth. It is very ferocious. Although ferocious, it only does good deeds. It specializes in swallowing evil spirits, so some people call it warding off evil spirits. Legend has it that Pixiu is the fifth son of the dragon, Suanni, who was born from the union of a lion, so he is the grandson of the dragon. Just like Phoenix and Qilin, they are divided into female and male. The male is named "Pi" and the female is named "Piu".

Origin of the word

Many people think that Pixiu is the giant panda, but judging from ancient pre-Qin texts, this statement is questionable. Some scholars believe that the giant panda is called "Pixiu" from the book "Translation of Emei" written by Hu Shi'an, a Qing Dynasty tourist. This book clearly states that this "Pixiu" is exactly the same as the beast "Pixiu" recorded in historical records. They are two different things.

The word "Pixiu" in the book "Translation of E Lai" is actually a homophone for fur. The author thought that "fur" was too vulgar, so he changed the name to "Pixiu". Later generations confused the two types of Pixiu, so they made a joke about giant pandas joining the army.
