Confucius pointed to show his son that this is the fruit of your family, and he replied that he had never heard of peacocks as masters of poultry.
Confucius pointed to show his son that this is the fruit of your family, and the son answered, I have never heard that peacock is a master's poultry, which means that Junping Kong pointed to Yangmei and said, "This is the fruit of your family." The child immediately replied, "I have never heard that peacock is your bird."
This sentence is from The Son of Yang in Shi Shuo Xin Yu written by Chao Liu Yiqing. The original text is:
Yang's son of Liang Guo is nine years old and very intelligent. Junping Kong thought of his father, but when his father was away, he called out. In order to set fruit, the fruit has bayberry. Confucius pointed to show his son, saying, "This is the fruit of your family." The son answered, "I haven't heard that peacocks are master poultry."
Translation:
In the state of Liang, there is a family named Yang. There is a nine-year-old son in the family, who is very clever. One day, Junping Kong came to visit his father. It happened that his father was not at home, so Junping Kong called the child out.
The child brought Junping Kong fruits, among which were red bayberries. Junping Kong pointed to Yangmei and showed it to the child, saying, "This is the fruit of your family." The child immediately replied, "I have never heard that peacock is your bird."
Extended information:
When Junping Kong saw Yangmei, he thought of the child's surname and deliberately teased the child: "This is your fruit." It means that your surname is Yang, and its name is Yangmei. You are a family! "This handy joke, very humorous, also very interesting. The child replied, "I haven't heard that peacock is your bird."
"Poultry" in the sentence is different from "Poultry" in the 21st century, where "home" and "Poultry" express their meanings independently. It can be seen from this that Yang Zi is an intelligent and eloquent child. His sentence "I haven't heard that peacocks are Confucius' poultry." Where is the clever answer? Junping Kong made a fuss about the surname, and the children also made a fuss about the surname. Junping Kong's "Kong" surname thought of the peacock;
The most wonderful thing is that he didn't directly say "Peacock is a master's poultry" stiffly, but adopted a negative way, saying that "Peacock is not a master's poultry", and tactfully replied, which not only showed due courtesy, but also expressed the meaning of "Since Peacock is not your bird, is Myrica rubra the fruit of my family", which made Junping Kong speechless.
Because he wants to admit that the peacock is his bird, what he said is tenable. Yang Zi showed the politeness that children should have. His tone was euphemistic, witty, humorous and quick-thinking, and he also expressed that "Peacock is not the bird of the master's family, so how can Yangmei be the fruit of the Yang family", which made Junping Kong speechless. It did not hurt the kindness of the two families, but also made people laugh it off.
