Chaoshan dialect

Chaozhou dialect is commonly spoken in Chaoshan area, and Hakka is spoken in some guest areas in mountainous areas.

The accents of Chaozhou dialect vary greatly among local counties and districts. Even within a county, there may be obvious differences within one or two towns.

But generally speaking, Chaozhou dialect is generally divided according to river basins:

Hanjiang River Basin accent: all of Chaozhou City, north of the bay of Shantou City, the former Chenghai County area (Jinping, Longhu , Chenghai District 3) and Nan'ao County, as well as Meizhou City belong to the Liuhuang area of ??Fengshun County. This is the standard pronunciation of Chaozhou dialect.

Lianjiang Basin accent: South of the bay of Shantou City is the former Chaoyang County area (Chaoyang, Chaonan and Haojiang districts), Huilai County under Jieyang City and the central and southern part of Puning City.

Rongjiang Basin accent: Rongcheng District, Jiedong District, Jiexi County of Jieyang City, northern Puning City, and the Tangnan area of ??Fengshun County in Meizhou City.

Of course, it can be further subdivided, so I won’t go into detail here.
