Anne lost her parents when she was a child, but she loves life and is imaginative. In her world, the stream is laughing, the rose can talk, and the little tree has become a bride with a beautiful veil. Even her own shadow and echo are bosom friends to talk to. She likes to give beautiful names to beautiful things and explore all the unknown worlds ... rich romantic imagination accompanied her to turn a difficult and ordinary life into a happy holiday. She often gets into trouble, but she dares to admit her mistakes and correct them in time. She grew up optimistically in adversity, experienced the beauty of life in laughter and enjoyed the happiness of life in love. At the same time, she passed on her love to friends, classmates, teachers and other people and places she could reach, without hiding. She loves nature, life and all beautiful things. She is always optimistic and persistent in the process of striving for progress, pursuing ideals and realizing her ambitions. Everyone around her is infected by her. Because of love, dreams, hopes and pursuits, life has become more harmonious, happy and beautiful.
Since the publication of 1908, this work has quickly become a best seller in English-speaking countries and gradually swept the world. So far, it has been translated into dozens of languages, with over 50 million copies issued, making it a world-renowned Canadian literary classic.
The growth of children is an ingenious and unique artistic perspective chosen by the author. Based on Anne's growth story and the theme of "love education", the work establishes a humanistic coordinate, guides the growth trend of human beings in the literary sense, and expounds the author's new views on life concept, education concept and even creative attitude, which makes the work have a unique artistic character and style compared with other children's literature works. Through the image of Anne, the author naturally reveals the positive and optimistic attitude towards life, the love and responsibility of helping others, the enthusiasm and courage to transform society, and the vision and pursuit of a beautiful ideal. At the same time, he gave an important proposition about "the construction of love" and put forward a new concept of two-way education and common growth for adults and children, which injected new content into growth.
Anne of the Green Gables is a best-selling novel by Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery, published in 1908. It is a novel for readers of all ages, but it has been regarded as a children's book in recent decades. Montgomery found the inspiration for this book on an old piece of paper she wrote when she was young, describing a couple who were mistakenly sent an orphan girl instead of a boy, but they decided to keep her. Montgomery also took advantage of her own childhood experience in rural Prince Edward Island. Montgomery used a photo of Evelyn Nesbit, which was cut from an American magazine and posted on the wall above her desk as a model for the main character Anne Shirley in the book.
Since its publication, Anne of Green Gables has sold more than 50 million books. In addition, this popular book is taught to students all over the world.
Summary of plot
Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert are unmarried middle-aged brothers and sisters. They live together in Green Gables, a farm in Avonley, Prince Edward Island. They decide to adopt a boy from an orphanage in Nova Scotia as a helper on their farm. After a series of misfortunes, the person who finally came to their house was a precocious 1 1 year-old girl named Anne Shirley. Anne is clever and eager to please others, but she is not satisfied with her name. Her pale face is dotted with freckles and red hair with pigtails. However, as an imaginative child, Anne gained a lot of fun in life and adapted quickly, thriving in the environment of Prince Edward Island. She was a chatterbox, which upset Marilla, who was serious and conscientious, although the shy Matthew soon fell in love with her.
The rest of the book tells about her continuing education at school, her excellent academic performance, her budding literary ambition and her friendship with Diana Barry (her best friend, Anne affectionately called her "bosom friend"), Jane Andrews, Ruby Gillis and her competition with Gilbert Blyth, who made fun of her red hair and won her hatred, despite his repeated apologies. Anne and Gilbert compete in class. Anne realizes one day that she no longer hates Gilbert, but she won't admit it.
The book also records her misfortune in the quiet old-fashioned Avonley village. These adventures include her games with her friendship group (Diana, Jane and Ruby), her competition with Patty's sisters (Gertie and Josie) and her mistakes at home, such as dyeing her hair green. Anne, together with Gilbert, Ruby, Josie, Jane and several other students, finally went to Queen's College and got a teaching license within one year. In addition, she won the Avery English Award, which enabled her to study for a bachelor's degree at Redmond College.
The book ends with Matthew's death. He died of a heart attack after learning that he and Marilla had lost all their money. Anne gave up the Avery Award and decided to stay at home to help Marilla whose eyesight was failing and teach at the nearest school, Carmody School, to show her love for Marilla and Green Gables. As a gesture of friendship, Gilbert Blyth gave up his teaching position in Avonley Village School and went to work in Baisha School, so that Anne could teach in Avonley Village School and stay in Green Gables for a week. After this behavior, Anne and Gilbert became best friends.
