Which dynasty did Liang Wudi come from (Liang Wudi turned out to be such a person)

This article is excerpted from History of China in Yi Zhongtian: Southern Dynasties and Northern Dynasties, and is used with permission.

Xiao Yan, a native of Liang Wudi, was the first emperor of the Southern Liang Dynasty. He lived to be 86 years old, making him the second longest-lived emperor in China history after Qianlong. If Liang Wudi "whoosh" across to the modern times, his titles will be too many: famous musician, painter, poet, writer, Andhadhun, the national player of Weiqi, calligrapher, calligraphy theorist, Buddhist expert, representative of Neo-Confucianism, master of Chinese studies, military leader, head of government, diplomat, doctoral tutor of Taoist studies and so on.

Liang Wudi believed in Buddhism and called himself "the Emperor and Bodhisattva" without blushing, which aroused the ruthless contempt of Buddhist professionals. Ordinary words and deeds can no longer express his love for Buddha, so he resolutely gave up his life in Tongtai Temple and became a monk.

The country cannot live without a king for a day, which frightened the ministers. One by one, they went to the table and cried for him to come back. However, Liang Wudi is like a child who plays tricks on others. Without a few sweets, he won't go home, so ministers have to take out $100 million from the state treasury to redeem him.

After eating the candy, the child began to cry again. Soon, Liang Wudi went to Tongtai Temple to become a monk. The same story is repeated again, and so on. After four times, Emperor Wu finally finished filming, but the national treasury allocated 400 million yuan for filming.

Liang Wudi had a great influence on the development of Buddhism in China. The Buddhist temple is often called Xiao Temple, which is related to him. He overhauled the temple, the "480 Hall of Southern Dynasties", and most of them were talking about him. It is said that the scalding scar, which caused great physical pain to countless monks, was also his invention. The custom of abstinence from meat and vegetarianism in Han Buddhism also originated from his vigorous advocacy.

Daily life in Liang Wudi is very simple. He doesn't drink or eat meat. He only eats one meal a day and is a vegetarian. He is very frugal, wearing a hat for three years and a quilt for two years. He stopped having sex after the age of 50, which made the concubines in the harem in their prime very uncomfortable.

He is strict with himself and lenient with others. It is reported that his sixth brother Xiaohong has 100 storage room and is suspected of possessing weapons. Emperor Wu went to check it himself, only to find that it was full of gold and silver treasures. Coins alone hide 30 houses, each with10 million. Liang Wudi breathed a sigh of relief and said happily to Xiaohong, Liu, your life is not a problem!

In this way, his frugality became a big joke.

Liang Wudi is a famous literary youth. Received a good education from an early age. When I was young, Xie Tiao and Shen Yue formed a famous literary salon, which was called "Eight Friends of Jingling". He can go to the battlefield to command and kill the enemy, or he can write some love poems by in my heart forever. His musical attainments are very high, and he once created a quasi-tone instrument; Painting is also very good, flowers, birds and animals have brushes.

He was obsessed with Weiqi and once summoned a monk. At that time, he was playing chess with someone, trying to kill each other's pieces. He said, kill! The attendants misunderstood and pulled the monk out and cut him down. After playing chess, Emperor Wu wanted to see the monk, and then he understood. This monk is the most unjust person who died in the history of Buddhism and Weiqi in China.
