What notes should I take when reading Friends Learn English?

I printed out the script of Friends and began to take notes, starting from the summer of 2005 and finishing all ten seasons in the winter of 2006. In 2008, I began to convert paper handwritten notes into electronic versions. On the one hand, I reviewed what I forgot. On the other hand, because my knowledge has improved after two years of growth and accumulation, I have also made some amendments and supplements. The most important thing is to change the definition of Chinese words into English, and at the same time summarize grammar learning and detailed explanation of pictures and texts involving cultural background, so as to be accurate, detailed and rich.

As you can imagine, it takes a lot of persistence and tenacity to complete all the notes in the tenth season, so I spent a lot of time and energy. Today, this edition of notes is released to share and communicate with "friends fans" and English learning enthusiasts. Hope.

Let me explain the color recognition and usage of this edition of notes I made.

Part I: Script modification.

I downloaded the script from the internet, and the source is unknown. In the process of using it, I found that almost every episode has mistakes, so I proofread it while listening to the series. The corrected contents include: spelling mistakes, proper nouns, singular and plural, possessive case, supplementing the original dialogue in the play, and not completely copied in the script.

It is necessary to revise the script. Let me give you an example. The dialogue in 10 1 (1kloc-0/stands for the first episode of the first season, and 923 stands for the 23rd episode of the ninth season):

Rachel: Do you want a wedding dress? Hardly used.

Monica: I think we're a little ahead of ourselves. All right. All right. I just want to get up and go to work, and don't think about him all day. Otherwise, I will get up and go to work.

Whether it is Chinese subtitles or notes made by others, this place is not very clear. The original text of the script is: I think we are a little ahead of ourselves. It's hard to guess its meaning. Although Monica spoke quickly, after listening to it several times, I found that she was talking about "ourselves", so I found that this fixed phrases surpassed herself: planning or doing something that is not yet distributable, and other things actually need to happen first.

Part II: Word sentence patterns.

1. When I took notes on a paper script, the printed font was too small to underline, so I used red and blue pencils to erase the words and sentences that needed to be marked. The annotation of words, phrases and sentences in the electronic version continues the style of the handwritten version, with blue words and phrases and red sentences. However, there has been a great improvement. All the words are explained in English, only some incomprehensible words are explained in Chinese. The English interpretation of the notes in this edition comes from the Oxford Advanced Learning Dictionary.

The reason for annotating in English is that I want to watch Friends to learn English, and college students account for a large proportion, all of whom have some basic English. Another important reason is that English definitions are more accurate. Learning English from "friends" is mainly to improve listening and speaking. Oral English is higher than listening, because it is a process that needs to be input first and then output. Many times, we watched a lot of American dramas, but we really started a dialogue with foreigners, but we couldn't open our mouths because we were not confident enough, and we were not 100% sure, for fear of telling other people's jokes wrong. Then how can we dispel this kind of psychology? I think we should not take English for granted, but dig into the most subtle and accurate places.
