As an old street in modern times, Mawei Street in Fuzhou enjoys a good reputation at home and abroad. In the fifth year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1866), Mawei Street rose with the establishment of ship administration. When Mawei Ship Administration and its school were first built, there were not many villages along Mawei River, scattered around the riverbank. In the construction of ship administration, most factories were built after stones were filled in the river banks. The rise of ship administration brought about the formation and prosperity of Mawei Street.

Mawei Street is mainly shops, hotels and handicraft workshops. On the eve of the Guangzhou Uprising of the Revolution of 1911, more than 20 people from Lianjiang, Wu Di and Huang and his party tied up ponytails in batches, stayed in Chaojianglou Hotel, and then arrived in Hong Kong by British ship and transited to Guangzhou. At that time, as Mawei Port gradually became a big trading port, there were more businessmen coming and going, and Mawei Street became increasingly lively and prosperous.

But in 19 (1930), a fire destroyed the whole Mawei Street. 193 1 to 1933, the whole street was rebuilt in batches. This modern commercial port and Jungang Street, which are mainly made of brick and wood structures, are divided into front street and back street, forming the layout of the market. Each store has two floors, and every ten stores are separated by a wind and fire wall to form a neat commercial building. The kitchens in the store are located outside the partition wall in the store. These unique buildings were not demolished until the expansion of Jiang Bin Avenue.

In Mawei Qian Jie, most shops are engaged in wholesale business, including dried and fresh fruits and aquatic products. Shili, a roasted peanut, has become a brand-name product of ponytail. Today, Shili peanuts are still a local ponytail specialty.

? In the back street of Mawei Street, most of the shops are retail, such as Renji Pharmacy, Shoudekang Pharmacy and Weishiyou Store (which is a large store that deals in Jingnan fruit).

On the bank side of Mawei, there is a short Jiang Qian Street, which is dominated by hotels, restaurants and tea rooms. Among them, Jo Jiang Tower is the most famous, with restaurants on the second floor, hotels on the third floor and cafes and snack bars downstairs. Business is the biggest and business is the best. The boss is Lin, who has been in business for several generations. Navy officers and soldiers also choose this firm to entertain guests.

There is also a market for ponytail strips, with nearly 100 stalls. Very lively. Unfortunately, at noon on September 3, 194 1, Japanese planes bombed the market. After the 1950s, they built a theater, which was later converted into a ponytail theater.
