Jianshui Ancient City Travel Notes:

That year, on the last day of our trip to Yunnan, the weather was so sunny and hot that we all forgot the miserable wind and rain in those days when we first arrived. The blue sky is dazzling, and the white clouds can only be described as "pure".

We all put on colorful summer clothes, and against the blue sky, white clouds, green trees and red flowers, we left behind "beautiful shadows" and posted them on WeChat Moments, so that friends in the winter can feel the spring. So colorful.

Yesterday, we arrived at the Jianshui Ancient City in Lin'an Town, Jianshui County, Honghe Prefecture, southern Yunnan Province in the afternoon, and appreciated the architectural style, history, culture and ethnic customs of this ancient city with a history of thousands of years.

At the same time, we saw ancient wells scattered throughout the city. At the edge of the largest well, an elderly group member personally picked up a bucket and recalled the feeling of fetching water when he was young.

At dinner time, we even found an authentic food stall and ate the ancient city’s authentic grilled tofu. The fluffy tofu babies I saw in residential houses during the day turned into delicious snacks that were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside at night. When dipped in Yunnan’s special dipping water, I couldn’t bear to stop eating.

After having enough soup and rice, we walked along the ancient street to eat. The ancient street has been repaired several times, but it still maintains its original appearance as much as possible. The bluestone road, the mottled houses, and the leisurely passers-by will make your steps slow down, and even slower...

Look up, and a quarter moon hangs on the city gate tower , the four big characters "Xiongzhen Southeast" on it are shining, as if to indicate the status and majesty of the ancient city.

Tuanshan Village Entrance

After enjoying the ancient city yesterday, today we are going to visit Tuanshan Village, 13 kilometers west of the ancient city.

Through the introduction of tour guide Xiao Cui, we learned that Tuanshan Village was founded in the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty. A Jiangxi businessman named Zhang Fu settled here because of its "fertile land and mellow customs". Produce descendants and become a local giant.

To this day, the village is still dominated by people with the surname Zhang, who account for 78% of the village's population.

This quiet little village is famous for its large-scale and well-preserved Qing Dynasty residences, such as Zhang Family Garden, Zhang Family Ancestral Hall, Zhang Family Ancestral Tomb, Huang En Mansion, Sima Di, Xiucai Mansion, and Battalion Commander The government is an important representative among them.

When I got off the car, the first thing I saw was a tall gatehouse. In the middle of the gatehouse hung a gold plaque reading "Tuanshan Village". It seems that this is the place we are going to visit this morning.

As soon as you enter the village, you will feel a simple atmosphere. Most of the ancient houses are made of civil structures, and the walls that are falling off piece by piece show their age. The wooden doors and windows are beautifully carved with various symbolic patterns and words, and the slogans from the Cultural Revolution period left on them add to its sense of the times.

Following the village tour guide, we first came to Zhangjia Garden through the winding path. Zhangjia Garden is one of the four major gardens in Jianshui, second only to Zhujia Garden in the ancient city. It is the private residence of Zhang Hanting, a descendant of the Zhang family, and is the main representative of Tuanshan folk residences. The house was built in the 31st year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. It consists of a first courtyard, a second courtyard and a garden ancestral hall.

The front yard is the flower hall, which is paved with bluestone slabs, flower stands, bluestone water tanks and flowers and trees; the middle yard is the main room where the family members live, and the backyard is the main room where the elders live. The garden ancestral hall is on the left side of the gate. The courtyard is spacious and there is a pool in the middle. The ancestral hall is located on a high platform with more than ten steps, solemn and elegant.

Following the flow of people, we went up to the second floor. We heard people say that this is the lady’s embroidery building. A picture immediately appeared in my mind, of a young lady in ancient costume, leaning on the railing alone in spring, looking at the pool of water, looking full of spring sorrow.

And I sat on the wooden chair beside the railing with a smile and happily took a picture. In ancient times, young ladies could only look at the scenery in the courtyard from the embroidery building, but I could travel across mountains and rivers and walk around, which was a great pleasure!

Zhangjia Garden Embroidery Building

Out of the garden , the tour guide took us around the village to see several representative houses.

Huang En Mansion was named after the owner’s old mother was conferred the title of Anren by Emperor Qianlong. There is a plaque of “Huang En Jing Biao” hanging on the door. It is said to be the largest residential courtyard in Tuanshan Village.

The masters of Xiucai Mansion are a pair of scholar brothers. However, in the troubled times of the late Qing Dynasty, the two abandoned literature and engaged in business. They can be regarded as Confucian businessmen. The Xiucai brothers opened Tianjichang Trading Company in Jianshui, which mainly dealt in tin products produced in Gejiu. However, their family still named themselves "Xiucai Mansion", and it seems that they were still proud of their literary name.

Dacheng Temple, located outside the south gate of the village, is one of the three temples in Tuanshan Village and the only temple that still serves as the center of religious ritual activities. There is a large well with a diameter of 2 meters in front of the door, which is the main source of domestic water for the villagers.

Zhang Family Instructions

While walking, I unknowingly broke away from the team and walked to a house with a plaque of Zhang’s ancestral hall. This should be Zhang’s ancestral hall. The ancestral hall of the family is the place where ancestors of the Zhang family are worshiped.

When you enter the door, you are first blocked by a piece of bluestone that blocks half of the yard's view. On it is engraved "The ancestral precepts should not be told that others are short-lived, and that one's own strengths are not good. Don't talk about kindness when you give it, and never forget when you receive kindness." It is deeply meaningful.

Flashing past the bluestone, there is a gravel road about 20 meters long, leading to the main entrance of the ancestral hall. At this time, I was the only one in the courtyard. The dappled sunlight filtered through the leaves and swayed with the wind in the courtyard together with the tree shadows. I suppressed the strange feeling in my heart and bravely walked towards the main entrance.

Entering the Bairen Hall, the most eye-catching thing in the main hall is a couplet hanging on both sides, "There is Taihe in the Bairen Hall, and everything will be easy in the world if you work hard."

There are ancestral precepts first, and family traditions later. The Zhang family not only writes them on paper and hangs them outside the door, but also passes them down from generation to generation as the family's philosophy of life. This is the reason why the Zhang family is prosperous!

I stood alone in the hall, reciting word by word the Bairen family tradition left by their ancestors. In a daze, I almost forgot where I was. where. The noisy voices outside interrupted my tranquility. When they came in, I walked out sadly.

Alley of the ancient village

Standing alone in the alley of the ancient village, time seems to go back.

In this century-old village, generations of people have walked through it. I cried, laughed, loved and hated here, but now, they all disappeared with their disappearance.

Who remembers the pain and joy they had, maybe only these century-old trees that cannot speak?

We are just passers-by, passers-by here, and passers-by in life. It’s a life to live a miserable life, and it’s a life to live a happy life. Who will remember you in future generations? Do you know who you are?
