What are the forms of composition?

Calligraphy works include nave, banners, banners, hand scrolls, couplets and other forms. The arrangement of various forms of words and lines, that is, the form of composition, can be seen in the inscriptions of past dynasties, but in summary, there are three main types:

The first type has vertical rows and horizontal columns, that is, "vertical and horizontal rows"

This form is characterized by clear lines, proper words, neat and clear, rigorous and generous, and is the most common in inscriptions and works written by seal script, official script and regular script. In terms of processing, the space is usually slightly smaller and the lines are slightly larger, while the official script is the opposite. Although it is written vertically, the word spacing is slightly larger than the line spacing. If the vertical official script is written with a line spacing greater than the word spacing, it will cause a sense of oppression between words, and it is difficult to make the whole text full of expressiveness and imagination. The form of "vertical and horizontal lines" is not only used in various styles of works, but also often used in today's official letters, announcements, exhibitions, wall newspapers and other writing. So it should be the first time to learn the rules.

The second type has rows vertically and no columns horizontally.

As far as the vertical body is concerned, because the length and size of the whole word are different, the interval distance of the word is also different, so it can only be written directly as a line, not horizontally as a column. This composition form is often used in running script and cursive script works to adapt to the changes of activities, flow and structure, so that the connection between words and lines is clear and the whole story is lively. This kind of composition is widely used because of its fast writing speed and generally not difficult to identify. Anything written in cursive, such as notes, letters, records, slogans, notices, reports, etc. You can use this composition, and people who study calligraphy should master it well.

The third kind is not long in rows or columns.

As one of the layout forms of China's calligraphy art, this composition is often used in the works of Weeds. It is characterized by arranging the size, reality, density, weight and thickness of the characters in a spaced and uneven hierarchical way, and combining the whole characters into a varied, vivid and endless work. This kind of composition pays attention to change, charm and beauty from beginning to end, which is difficult to master. If it is not handled properly, it is either too crowded or too loose, which is counterproductive. So it is not suitable for beginners to use calligraphy.
