There are several types of signal lights when passing a railway crossing. What do they mean?

According to Article 331 of the "Railway Technical Management Regulations": When passing a railway crossing, there are three signal lights: red, yellow, and green, which respectively indicate:

1. Red - stop;

2. Yellow - pay attention or reduce the speed;

3. Green - run at the specified speed.

These three types of signal lights are visual signals for railway signals. In addition, there are auditory signals: horns, whistles, sounds from piers, and whistles from locomotives and rail cars.

Extended information:

The visual signals of railway signals are divided into daytime, nighttime and day-night general signals. When encountering fog, snowstorm and other conditions during the day, the display distance of the stop signal is less than 1000 m, the display distance of the attention or deceleration signal is less than 400 m, and the display distance of the shunting signal and the shunting driver signal is less than 200 m, night signals should be used.

Only night or day and night signals are used in the tunnel.

It is prohibited to set up red, yellow and green decorative cloths, slogans and lights that hinder the confirmation of signals along the railway lines and in the stations. If equipment that hinders the confirmation of signal lights is installed in the station, it should be removed or measures should be taken to block the light.

It is not allowed to plant trees that affect the signal display within the specified signal display distance. The treatment methods for trees that affect the signal display shall be stipulated by the Railway Administration.
