Brief introduction of Daming straw:

Daming county straw is made of natural high-quality wheat straw and other natural raw materials through more than ten complicated processes such as careful selection, drawing, soaking and weaving. After ingenious design by technicians and careful processing by workers, various white, flexible and bright straw hats, grass blue, grass boxes, straw mats, floor mats, tea mats and so on have been compiled.

Daming has a long history of straw weaving and straw crafts is rich and colorful. Straw baskets, straw hats, straw handbags, wall hangings, screens and straw fashion are novel in design and exquisite in craftsmanship. Daming's cursive arts and crafts are a combination of oil painting, meticulous painting and other arts, which mostly show the themes of flowers, birds, insects, fish, tigers in the mountains, Luming Literature in the green valley, hanging waterfalls and so on, and have certain practical and artistic value. In the south of China, people weave many attractive handicrafts with straw and wheat straw.

Xifuji Township, daming county, located 20 kilometers southeast of Daming County, is the main birthplace of folk straw weaving techniques. Straw weaving technology is said to have a history of 1500 years. During the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, it was introduced to our county from Ye County, Shandong Province. It started in Jia Zhu Village, Xifuji Township, and then spread to the east of Weihe River in daming county. Weaving handicraft penetrated into thousands of households.

Due to economic backwardness and other reasons, most products are for their own use, and some products are sold in the market, such as hand-made straw hats. After the establishment of daming county Straw Weaving Factory, our county began to engage in deep processing in straw crafts. There are about 1000 kinds of straw products developed, which have been exported to Europe and Asia and other countries, and have played a positive role in promoting the economic development of our county and increasing farmers' income.

Due to the rapid economic development, and the time-consuming and laborious production in straw crafts, there is no considerable economic value and few sales channels, some people engaged in this industry gradually turn to other industries. There are fewer and fewer people engaged in this kind of handicraft. During the Qing Dynasty and the folk period, there were many kinds of straw weaving in rural areas. In addition to daily utensils, folk artists also weave toys and decorative items with straw.
