Sit on the ground and walk 8 thousand miles a day. What's the next sentence?

All joys and sorrows follow the flow.

It's the first of Mao Zedong's seven-character poem "Seven Laws and Two Poems to Send to the God of Sorrow" written on June 3th, 1958 after he learned from People's Daily that yujiang county County had eliminated schistosomiasis.

The whole poem is as follows:

Green waters and green mountains are in vain, but Hua Tuo is helpless against bugs!

thousands of people in Ficus pumila L. have lost their lives, and thousands of families sing songs.

Sit on the ground and walk 8, miles a day, and see a thousand rivers from afar.

Cowherd wanted to ask about the plague, but he was as sad and happy as ever.

The translation is as follows:

There are so many green waters and green mountains in vain that Hua Tuo can do nothing about schistosomiasis.

Thousands of villages are full of Ficus pumila and human excrement, and every household is deserted and ghosts are lamenting.

Sitting on the ground and walking 8, miles every day, you can see the Tianhe River in the high sky.

Cowherd also wants to ask about the plague god, and all joys and sorrows follow the tide.

Creative background

On February 27th, 1956, Mao Zedong emphasized at the Supreme State Council that "the whole party should mobilize and the whole people should mobilize to eradicate schistosomiasis" and wrote the eradication of schistosomiasis into Article 4 of the Outline of Agricultural Development. In the same year, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China set up a leading group for the prevention and control of schistosomiasis, and sent a large number of medical teams to the epidemic areas for the prevention and control of schistosomiasis.

The work has achieved remarkable results. People in yujiang county County, an epidemic area, put forward the slogan of "preparing for half a year, fighting for half a year, and sweeping up the tail for half a year", and exerted their enthusiasm to fight against the plague. And vigorously build water conservancy projects, fill gullies, and eradicate the breeding grounds of schistosomiasis. It only took two years to eradicate schistosomiasis.

Appreciation of works

The first sentence of the first couplet is about the heroic times, and the second sentence is about the heroic people. Yao Shun is a wise monarch in ancient China, and poets here compare him to the 6 million people of China. Only under the socialist system can schistosomiasis, which has been endangering the health of working people for thousands of years, be eradicated. Here, the poet highly praised and evaluated the heroic spirit of the people to create miracles on earth.

The couplet describes the taming of mountains and rivers, showing the infinite wisdom and creative spirit of 6 million people.

The couplet describes the labor scene of splitting mountains and controlling water from the front, which strongly shows the real motivation of "sending plague gods".

At the end, I point out the topic, sum up the whole poem, and return to the issue of eliminating schistosomiasis. Using a rhetorical question to highlight the meaning of the word "send" shows the poet's contempt and ridicule for "athel Loren" humorously and implicitly. At the same time, it also shows that the "athel Loren", which has been endangering the people for many years, has been cornered and surrounded by the people.
