What is an "exploration drama"? Contemporary literature history of China

In the early 1980 s, some crews used new artistic means to express their thoughts on life and human existence, and created a number of innovative exploration dramas; Modern drama techniques such as flexible expansion of time and space, stream of consciousness and absurd techniques are adopted to standardize traditional drama. Representative works include Ma Zhongjun and Jia Hongyuan's There is a Heat Flow Outside, and Gao Xingjian's Absolute Signal is a new period literature-a new period drama.
