The 34-year-old rural cotton merchant made a bold decision to buy land, build a number of high-grade houses and sell them to foreign comprador and Chinese white-collar workers nearby. His idea is modeled after the operation mode of Shikumen residential area popular in Shanghai.

The first model house built by Huang Shaoshan covers an area of 255.5 square meters, with three floors up and down, and a patio in front and back. The living room is equipped with four gorgeous floor-to-ceiling colored glass doors and a dark red ground stone floor, which is both practical and foreign. He gave this community an auspicious name "Xian 'anfang", which means wealth and Xian 'an. Five years later, the then land king Liu Xinsheng bought Taiping Road and paved it with asphalt.
