Le'an has a long history. It belonged to Wu in the Spring and Autumn Period, Yue in the early Warring States, Chu in the Zhou Dynasty, Jiujiang County in the Qin Dynasty, Nancheng County in Yuzhang in the Western Han Dynasty, and Nancheng County in Yuzhang in the Eastern Han Dynasty.
