Damadai Village with Jiuqu Yellow River Lanterns

Damadai Village had a "Nine-bend Yellow River Lantern" in 1920 and 1946, referred to as "Yellow River Lantern". The blueprint of this lamp was brought from Beijing by Yang Xia, a literary scholar from the village in Shunzhi Yiwei (1655) of the Qing Dynasty. The method of making it is to set up an array outside the village (i.e., the "Jiuqu Yellow River Bagua Array") and attach lanterns hanging in the village (i.e., lanterns with various shapes of melons, fruits, vegetables, people, livestock, poultry, and animals. There are There are riddles, stories, etc. written on the lamps). In 1946, Damadai built Yellow River lanterns and located them in the south of Damadai Village. A theater troupe is also hired to sing on the stage to increase the lively atmosphere. There are long couplets on the high pillars on both sides of the stage in front of the stage. The first couplet is "Germany and Italy are defeated, Japan surrenders, the war is over, and peace has come. People are celebrating the Lantern Festival." Only then did I put up the Yellow River lantern." Lanterns are hung in the village, all at night. Each household hangs at least two lights, one on each of the screen wall and outside the gate, but there are also three or five lights. There are various kinds of lamps, including octagonal lamps, hexagonal lamps, eggplant lamps, cucumber lamps, peach lamps, apple lamps, etc. Most of them are made by themselves, and some are made by skilled craftsmen. A pine gate was built at every alley in the village. Red couplets were posted on the pine gate, and large-character slogans were posted on the walls along the streets and alleys. Their contents served the revolutionary struggle situation at that time and inspired the people's patriotic enthusiasm for united struggle.

The Yellow River lanterns installed in 1946 lasted for five days and five nights, attracting tens of thousands of tourists. The audience includes tourists from Weifang, Shouguang, Guangrao, Boxing, Zhoucun, Zhangdian, Linqu, Jinan, Qingdao and other places. The "daughter-in-law carrying water" lamp from Song Zhichun's family and the "changing character board" lamp from Dou Shaopeng's family are the most popular.
