Station

As a very special space carrier

It not only undertakes the transportation function

but also pays attention to creating comfortable and pleasant places. Environment

Next, let us enjoy two cases together

Let’s see what a truly designed station looks like

Delft City Hall and Railway Station

The station is integrated into the same volume as the new city hall and is located above a train tunnel. After entering the station hall, a map depicting the history of Delft will be unfolded on the ceiling, and when looking outside, the scene of the city and the old station is presented in front of you, like a contemporary version of Johannes Vermeer's "Landscape of Delft" Version.

▼Closer view of buildings

Numerous historical buildings and canals reflect Delft’s past. Known as the "City of Princes" (Prinsenstad), this city has close ties with the Dutch royal family and the world-famous Delft Pottery Factory. In addition, Delft Institute of Technology also leads the forefront of scientific and technological innovation. Delft is characterized by the intertwining of past and future, and this was the starting point of this design proposal.

▼Bicycle path by the river

The vaulted ceiling features a huge 1877 map of Delft and the surrounding area, and connects the train station to the city hall. . The walls and columns in the station hall are decorated with contemporary Delft blue tiles. Pedestrians can walk directly into the city hall from the station. The building's glass surface reflects the Dutch sky, with fused glass panels decorated with lenticular spherical patterns that echo traditional window designs in vernacular architecture. High-performance glass and enclosed fused glass panels are staggered to achieve superior energy efficiency.

▼Facade details

Throughout the design process, the volume of the building was moderately reduced and transformed to achieve a compact and efficient building form. The roof is slightly lowered at the corners, thus forming a natural connection with the existing small-scale buildings in the city center. The building connects the historic inner city to the east with the train tunnel and residential areas to the west, adapting the entire city center space. The glass volume of the Town Hall is punctuated by several voids that create the spatial experience of laneways and courtyards – a response to Delft’s complex urban structure.

On the outside of the building, the amount of glass installed varies according to the specific orientation of the facade , this approach can adjust the lighting while reducing the amount of solar radiation in summer. The glass used in the facade not only absorbs light well, but also blocks solar radiation. All windows can be opened manually for ease of use and ventilation. Solar panels on the roof provide 20% of the energy for the building’s mechanical systems while providing sensory lighting. The building has a green building assessment score of 270 points.

The public hall is connected to the 2,450-square-meter station hall from both visual and spatial levels. The retail and catering facilities cover 850 square meters. The total area of ??the entire project is 28,320 square meters.

Amsterdam Central Station

The Amsterdam Passage project is not only equipped with a variety of unique, simple and elegant shops and restaurants, but the entire layout also creates a hustle and bustle. A leisure space that is completely isolated from the commuter flow. This passage design, which is completely different from the design of the commuting area, was completed by Benthem Crouwel Architects, Powerhouse Company, and Merk X***.

A selection of high-end retail stores and matching architectural styles reflect the channel’s distinctive character. Attracted by full-length LED introduction screens, escalators and stairs with brass corners, visitors will be guided through three historic brick arches and then enter the 3,700-square-meter area. In the new underground shopping area. Modernity and classics, tradition and high technology blend together here. The design of The Passage revolves around creating a luxurious and immersive experience through crafted details, ambient lighting, and comfortable ceiling heights.

The two ends of the central hall facing the IJ river area are covered with storefronts made of glass and wood or steel. The storefronts are designed to place individual storefronts in close proximity, creating a unified and flowing feel. In addition, a specific color sequence was designed to highlight the characteristics of each store.

Polished concrete lamp posts with lantern-like lighting on top are also staggered with custom-made Statuario Venato marble seats along the central axis of the passage to embellish the entire space. Chrome details, marble cladding and dark materials together create a romantic pedestrian street in the evening. Eye-catching lighting fixtures made of compressed glass on the lamp posts also add a touch of 1920s Paris to the overall feel of the passage. The public seats with soft leather cushions also attract passers-by to take a rest and relax.

The passage ceiling consists of large slabs detached from the walls and accented by existing canopy rafters from the station. The unique atmosphere of the train station also exerts a continuous influence on the passage through this method. These ceiling panels, made up of specially made and suspended narrow strips, house various lighting equipment, speakers and sprinklers, hiding them from view and eliminating the need for other panels to contain these technical equipment. Encapsulates the trouble.

As the first channel, the IJ channel will be exclusively used by luxury and fashionable clothing stores. Its dark floor processing creates a unique atmosphere and warmth in the leisure area. The tiled pavement is finished with brass edges, giving the floor depth, detail and charm. After the opening of the IJ channel, Amsterdam Central Station with ticket gates allows visitors to enter for free without taking public transportation, providing a unique shopping and staying area for the station.
