About membrane dialysis

Peritoneal dialysis refers to the process of water and solute transport and exchange between peritoneal dialysate in abdominal cavity and blood in peritoneal capillaries through the natural biofilm of peritoneal cavity. Some patients with severe cardiovascular diseases are not suitable for hemodialysis treatment. In order to solve this problem, peritoneal dialysis comes in handy.

Peritoneal dialysis has many advantages, but it also has some disadvantages:

Advantages:

1) is simple in operation, wide in application range, does not need special equipment, can be carried out in primary hospitals and patients' homes, and has little influence on daily life and work.

It is convenient to carry, does not need to apply anticoagulant to patients all over the body, and the dosage of heparin in abdominal cavity is small and difficult to be absorbed, which will not increase the risk of bleeding, and is suitable for dialysis patients with bleeding tendency.

2) No cardiopulmonary bypass, no hemodynamic changes, stable dialysis, avoiding hypotension caused by rapid reduction of blood volume and no imbalance syndrome, so it is safer for the elderly, especially for patients with cardiovascular diseases and unstable circulation.

3) Protect residual renal function. Scientific research shows that the decline rate of residual renal function in peritoneal dialysis patients is obviously lower than that in hemodialysis patients, and residual renal function is very important to improve the quality of life and prolong the survival time of dialysis patients.

4) Peritoneal dialysis is superior to hemodialysis in removing middle molecular substances and improving anemia and neuropathy.

Disadvantages:

1) infection. Because the special catheter for peritoneal dialysis must be connected to the dialysis bag when changing the liquid, there is the possibility of abdominal infection, so you should wash your hands thoroughly before performing any steps related to peritoneal dialysis treatment.

2) Increased body weight and triglyceride in blood. Because the dialysate uses glucose to remove excess water, it may absorb some glucose during dialysis, which will increase the patient's weight and triglyceride and other lipids in the blood. Therefore, peritoneal dialysis patients need proper exercise and reduce sugar intake.

3) The loss of protein. In the process of peritoneal dialysis, protein and vitamins will be lost, so peritoneal dialysis patients can eat more fish, meat, eggs, milk and so on. Besides maintaining their normal eating habits, the best sources of vitamins are fruits and vegetables.

I hope these answers can help you!
