Where is St. Miller's Church located?

St. Miller's Church is a famous scenic spot for religious tourism in Qiqihar.

St. Miller's Church is the main building in the Heilongjiang Catholic Church. Construction started in the 19th year of the Republic of China (1930) and was completed and opened at the end of the 20th year of the Republic of China (1931). It was congratulated by the Swiss Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Heilongjiang at the time. It was built by Master Fu, with funds donated by Swiss Anglicans, and is located at No. 10 Haishan Hutong (today No. 24 Haishan Hutong).

The foundation and skeleton of the church are reinforced concrete structures, covering an area of ??1,250 square meters. The main tower is 43 meters high, with a 1.75-meter-high cross on the top. Under the cross is the bell tower, with five copper alloy bells imported from Germany suspended inside, one large and four small. The height and diameter of the big bell are over 1 meter, and the weight is over 1 ton. The height and diameter of the small bells are each more than 30 centimeters, and each weighs more than 100 kilograms. The bronze bell chimes the time three times a day. The sound spectrum of the bell is 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, which can be transmitted to more than ten miles away. Now the bronze bell has been lost. The bell tower is surrounded by long cross windows made of thick five-color patterned glass imported from Germany. The ground floor of the church is the lobby (chapel), with an altar at the north end and murals of Catholic legends painted on the walls.

On the north side of the church is the Bishop's Palace, a two-story yellow building with a construction area of ??360 square meters. It is the office and accommodation of the bishop and deputy bishop. There is a two-story blue brick building on the northeast side of the church with a construction area of ??972 square meters. The upper floor is a meeting room for the clergy, which doubles as a chapel for believers in winter. Downstairs is the kitchen, canteen and guest house for outside believers. There is also a two-story blue brick building on the northwest side of the church, with a construction area of ??794 square meters. It is the office and accommodation for local and out-of-county priests. There are three red brick buildings on the southwest side of the church, with a construction area of ??300 square meters. They are catechism rooms for new believers.

In July of the 36th year of the Republic of China (1947), the then Catholic Bishop Hu Ganpu and others used religion to conduct espionage activities. The Qiqihar Municipal Government took over the church and all its buildings and used them for other purposes. In 1958, it was changed to the site of the Qiqihar Circus. During the Cultural Revolution, the cross on the top of the church was destroyed and replaced with a red five-star. The windows of the cross around the bell tower were smashed, plastered with cement, and four political slogans were written on it. The slogans were removed after the Cultural Revolution. In 1983, the church's property ownership returned to the Qiqihar Catholic Patriotic Association. In February 1987, St. Miller's Church was designated as a municipal cultural relic protection unit. In May 1990, the red five-star at the top was removed and the cross was rebuilt.
