Translation of Wang Tingchen’s ancient texts

Soon the chief envoy Chen Fengwu and the patrol censor Yu Maojian arrived one after another. Wang Tingchen went out to greet Chen Fengwu because he was the examiner. Chen Fengwu praised Tingchen and told him: "Of course it is good for you to serve me. The censor is coming soon. You should be more cautious when serving him." Tingchen agreed. When Yu Maojian arrived, because Wang Tingchen was always arrogant and disobedient, he consciously reduced and suppressed his prestige. Because of his minor mistakes, he published a notice to all officials in the state. Ting Chen knelt down and begged for forgiveness, but Yu Maojian was even more severe. Ting Chen cursed: "Mr. Chen has harmed me." He went straight to the court to confront Yu Maojian, called all the officials, locked the door, cut off all supplies, and reported everything. Mao Jian was very embarrassed. Chen Fengwu came to Mao Jian's rescue, so Mao Jian left overnight. Soon Maojian reported to the emperor to impeach him. At this time, people from Yuzhou came out to complain but were not tried. He reported to Tingchen that he did not deal with political affairs. Tingchen was arrested and imprisoned. He was dismissed and returned to his hometown. After Shizong succeeded to the throne, all those who had been demoted were reinstated. Only Tingchen was special, and the ministers discussed not to reinstate him.
