What does it mean to pick up Taigong?

Meeting Taigong means celebrating the birthday of ancestors.

among all kinds of strange folk customs in Daye, Hubei province, only receiving Taigong is the most dense and sacred. On the 16th day of the first month of 216, it was the day when the Chen clan received Taigong in Xinlou Village, Jinshandian Town, Daye. At eight o'clock in the morning, gongs and drums rang and firecrackers rang, and hundreds of Chen descendants joined the huge Taigong team.

It's 48 years since I met Taigong this time. In other words, one can't see such a scene more than three times in one's life.

The folk custom of "Meeting Taigong" in Daye is an ancestor worship culture, which is both a folk belief and a psychological need. The modern value of ancestor worship culture of "Jietaigong" is mainly reflected in worship value, enlightenment value, cohesion value and so on.

Folklore comes from the people and is passed down to them. It plays a subtle role in people's lives, lasting from generation to generation and lasting forever, affecting people from generation to generation.

Sacrificial ceremony is a kind of worship of nature and a ritual of ancestor worship. In the Book of Rites, it is said that "there are five classics in rites, and nothing is more important than sacrifice". Zheng Xuan of the Han Dynasty once made a note for this: "There are five classics of ceremony, namely, auspicious ceremony, fierce ceremony, guest ceremony, military ceremony and Jia ceremony." Ji Li, that is, the ritual ceremony, is the first of the five rites.

In the long history of thousands of years, the sacrificial activities are still alive today, although they have experienced dynasty changes, or have been impacted by foreign cultures or disappeared. What remains after historical washing must have its meaning and value.

At the Sixth Plenary Session of the Seventeenth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, "building a spiritual homeland for the Chinese nation" was regarded as a basic content and strategic task of building a socialist cultural power. The cultural function carried by sacrificial activities can conform to the development of the times and play its positive role in "building a spiritual homeland for the Chinese nation".

"Cultural Auditorium, Spiritual Home" is the slogan of auditorium culture. The folk custom of "connecting with Taigong" in Daye, Hubei Province is a cultural phenomenon of ancestor worship in sacrificial activities. The modern value and future development of the ritual activity of "receiving Taigong" deserve our attention.
