Fresh product lamp regulations: It is prohibited to use lighting facilities that significantly change the true color and luster of edible agricultural products and other sensory properties.

In July 2023, the State Administration for Market Regulation announced the "Measures for the Supervision and Administration of the Quality and Safety of Edible Agricultural Products Market Sales", which will be effective from December 1, 2023. In response to public complaints about the problem of "fresh food lamps" misleading consumers, the measures clarify the sale of fresh edible agricultural products, and lighting and other facilities that significantly change the true color and luster of edible agricultural products shall not be used to mislead consumers' sensory perception of the products.

Judging from Order No. 81 issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation, there is no concept of "fresh food lamps" in it. "Fresh lantern" is just a popular name. Determining whether a lamp complies with regulations should not be based on "fresh food lamps", but should be based on whether the lamp has significantly changed the true color and luster of edible agricultural products and other sensory properties, and whether it has misled consumers' sensory perception of the product.

A staff member of the Hunan Provincial Market Supervision and Administration Bureau said that if the lighting conditions of the fresh food market are poor and dark, and lighting is necessary, it is okay to use normal lamps.

Relevant regulations on fresh food lamps in Nanjing

On November 17, 2023, Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province issued the "Work Guidelines on Strengthening the Regulation of Fresh Food Lamps Used in Agricultural Products in the City" , which clarifies several situations in which fresh food lamps are used in disguised forms that need to be eliminated:

1. It is prohibited to directly use red, blue, green and other lighting facilities that significantly change the sensory properties of fresh edible agricultural products. Perform irradiation.

2. It is prohibited to use variable and controllable light sources to adjust colors to cope with supervision, and to actually change the sensory properties of edible agricultural products during sales.

3. It is prohibited to use lampshades that are red inside or outside, causing actual reflected light to change the sensory properties of edible agricultural products.

4. It is prohibited to add red plastic bags to normal lamps, apply red substances on the surface of light bulbs, etc., which will cause the actual lighting effect to be non-compliant.

5. It is prohibited to use red, blue, green and other illegal light sources together with normal light sources.
