World AIDS Day Promotional Briefing

Dear Editors:

December 1st is World AIDS Day, and the theme this time is "We unite to control the epidemic." To support HIV awareness and prevention efforts around the world, we have developed the following brief.

1. Global situation of the AIDS epidemic

As of the end of 2019, approximately 38 million people worldwide were infected with HIV, of which nearly 21 million were receiving antiretroviral treatment. However, approximately 1.2 million people still die from AIDS-related illnesses every year. Especially in developing countries, AIDS remains a very serious public health problem.

2. Ways of transmission of AIDS

-Blood transmission: through blood transfusions or vaginal needles;

-Sexual transmission: through sexual intercourse Transmission;

-Vertical transmission: Pregnant women infected with HIV pass the virus to their fetuses or newborns.

3. Methods to prevent AIDS

-Reduce the number of sexual partners, use condoms and other protective measures;

-Do not use needles, Refuse to inject drugs;

-Carry out HIV nucleic acid testing before each blood transfusion;

-Carry out virus screening before pregnancy and receive timely treatment;

-Actively participate AIDS prevention publicity and education activities.

4. Progress in China’s AIDS work in recent years

AIDS is a disease with a long incubation period and difficult treatment, but the Chinese government has made significant progress in the eradication of AIDS in recent years. As of the end of 2019, there were nearly 1 million people infected with HIV in China, but nearly 90% of the infected people had received antiviral treatment. At present, China's domestic AIDS prevention and control work has achieved positive results, but it also requires the concerted attention and action of the whole society.

We hope that through this promotional briefing, more people can understand the relevant knowledge of AIDS, actively participate in AIDS prevention and control work, and contribute to the fight against AIDS together.

Thank you!
