New Year's Day Party

The origin of New Year's Day

New Year's Day is the first day of the year. The name "New Year's Day" is said to come from Zhuan Xu, one of the legendary Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors. He takes the first month of the lunar calendar as the Yuan and the first day as the Dan. "Yuan" means first and beginning, and "Dan" means a red sun rising from the ground. The combination of "Yuan" and "Dan" means that people will welcome the new year with vigor. On this day, cities and rural areas across our country are decorated with lights and colorful decorations and put on festive attire. Many units hang up huge slogans saying "Celebrate New Year's Day" to celebrate the New Year.

On September 27, 1949, the first plenary session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference resolved: "The Chinese People's Republic of China adopts the AD calendar for its calendar." This is what we call the Gregorian calendar. In order to distinguish the two new years of the lunar calendar and the solar calendar, and because the "beginning of spring" in the 24 solar terms of the lunar calendar happens to be before and after the lunar new year, the first day of the first lunar month is renamed the "Spring Festival" and the first day of the solar calendar is designated as "New Year's Day". "So far, New Year's Day has become a happy holiday for people across the country.

New Year's Day is a compound word in Chinese, and Yuan means the beginning or first. Dan is a pictographic character that means the sun rises from the horizon. Bronze vessels from the Yin and Shang dynasties in my country have the pictographic character denier.

Every January 1st of the Gregorian calendar, people call it "New Year's Day". Why is this?

It turns out that in Chinese, "Yuan" means the beginning, which is the first; "Dan" means day or morning. The two words together refer to the first day of the New Year. But this was not fixed from the beginning.
