A slogan praising stoma wounds.

Only then did I know the meaning of the word "stoma". Why do I know this word? The reason is that I am currently experiencing the life of an ostomy man.

I had an operation on the evening of June 29th, and then I was hospitalized for a week. During my stay in hospital, I had several emotional breakdowns and I couldn't face myself. In particular, the physical and psychological blow after using the painkiller made me more sentimental. Although my mother has repeatedly told me that I can recover within three months, a simple and well-meaning joke from relatives and friends can make me burst into tears.

But with the company and support of my family, I think I am a very happy stoma.

Whether you are a temporary colostomy patient or a permanent colostomy patient like me, we should face up to our current shortcomings. After all, this is the result of our previous neglect of health. The past cannot be changed, but we can think of some ways to alleviate our pain in this respect and make colostomy care easier.

I looked up a lot of information about ostomy care, most of which were written, which I couldn't understand, so it didn't make much sense in practice. According to my "actual combat experience", the following are some suggestions and experiences I have summarized for my patients:

1, family members must participate in the process of nursing our stoma so that we can learn more about our stoma and actively find ways to make ourselves as comfortable as possible.

2. Leak-proof cream can be applied to the ostomy bag instead of the skin, and then directly pressed on the skin to reduce the friction on the skin caused by direct application.

3. The nursing of temporary double-cavity stoma is more difficult than permanent single stoma, because there is a glass tube at the stoma, and excrement will inevitably flow into the body from the gap. For permanent single stoma, you can choose to change the stoma bag at night without wearing it, so that the skin around the stoma can get a good rest.

4. When peeling the ostomy bag, be sure to keep it moist. If there is no wound next to it, you can tear the ostomy bag directly in the shower. If there is a wound, be careful not to let it speak. Dry tearing will do great harm to the skin, and the next paste will increase the pain.

5. It is also important to maintain a good mood. Physical and mental pleasure can make the body function develop in a good direction. You can find more friends to chat with, watch variety shows that you don't usually have time to watch or chase a good drama to distract your attention, which can effectively relieve the pain and itching of the wound.

6. For patients with non-permanent stoma, we can make a countdown schedule and cross off the past day. In the meantime, we must take good care of our health. On the one hand, we can prevent the intestinal tract from being sticky. On the other hand, because the doctor said it was 3-6 months, we must strive for 3 months.

7. For all ostomy care products, you must carefully read the instructions and special reminders yourself or ask young people to help you. The wrong use method has a direct impact on the life of ostomy bag, and repeated replacement of ostomy bag will increase the pain and nursing cost of patients.

8. It is inconvenient to cut the mold. You can compare the previous mold with the stoma before cutting, because my temporary stoma will shrink over time, and cutting the stoma bag too much will lead to immersion dermatitis around the stoma, which can never be cured.

9. "Sandwich" rule type immersion dermatitis: after cleaning, apply stoma powder, spray 3m protective film, spray rehydration powder, and then spray rehydration powder, one layer and three layers. The doctor said it would take about a week to recover.

10, you can try sleeping on your stomach at night. I put two thick sofa pillows above my stoma, and put a basin at the stoma to support and collect excrement, so that the skin can repair itself.

I hope my advice can help patients with ostomy, and I also hope that we can communicate with each other to make ostomy care as easy as possible!
