654381October 8, 20 17 National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held in the Great Hall of the People. The project "New Fiber Preparation Technology and Industrialization" declared by China Unicom and Chang Fei Company won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award.

This project focuses on the urgent demand for new communication optical fiber for access network and next generation optical transmission network (ultra-high speed, ultra-large capacity and ultra-long distance), and clearly points out for the first time that large effective area is the main factor to improve the transmission performance of ultra-high-speed systems such as 400G, and fully demonstrates the feasibility of G.654 optical fiber land application. Based on the development needs and challenges of optical transmission network, this project has built the first new terrestrial G.654 optical cable project in China, and completed the verification of multi-system and multi-fiber existing network 400G system and the long-term operation performance research on land in Shandong and Xinjiang respectively. The research results will guide the future backbone network construction of China Unicom, reduce the overall investment in network construction, guide operators to deploy G.654 optical cable in the existing network, and lay a foundation for the research, demonstration and scale application of ultra-high-speed trunk long-distance transmission technology (Tbit/s and above).
