The predecessor of the college is Xi 'an Foreign Affairs Service Training College, which was founded in 1992. In May 2000, it was upgraded to a higher vocational college and renamed as Xi Foreign Affairs Vocational College. In 2005, it was upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate college and renamed Xi Foreign Affairs College.
