How to use mask in ps

Cover-up ... is to cover unnecessary things without destroying the original picture!

For example, if you draw a box on a layer (it may feather in actual use, you can set it), and then click the mask button below, then the things outside the box you draw will disappear! The mask of your painting appears in the article. If you want to modify it, just color it in the mask under the channel!

If you fill in or reduce the chroma of 1- 100%, the layer with mask will have a corresponding transparency from 1- 100%!

This is a popular and simple statement.

The theoretical statement is as follows-

Chapter VII Channels and Masks

7. 1 Channel basics

1, the concept of channel

Channel: It is a gray image that stores different types of information, mainly used to store color components and selection information of the image.

2. Color mode and channel of the image

In Photoshop, the concept of channel comes from image pattern, which is used to represent the color components of image pattern.

The color channels are slightly different for different color modes. For example, in RGB mode and CMYK mode, the colors represented by color channels are different; There are brightness channels and color channels in Lab mode. Channels in HSB mode represent hue, saturation and brightness of colors.

7.2 Basic Operation of Channels

▲ Channel list (visibility, channel thumbnails, shortcut keys), including: synthetic main channel (ranked in the first layer), single channel, spot color channel and Alpha channel (ranked in the bottom layer).

▲ Panel buttons (load channel as selection, save selection as channel, create new channel and delete channel)

▲ Panel menu

Basic operation of the channel:

○ New channel:

○ copying and deleting channels

○ channel separation and merging

○ channel mixing (image adjustment channel mixer)

○ Channel editing (use drawing or editing tools to edit, use white to increase the channel range, and use black to reduce the channel range; You can also use drawing tools and colors with different transparency to make channels with different transparency)

7.3 Basic knowledge of masks

Mask: protects the selected or specified area from editing operation and plays a shielding role. You can use Alpha channels and storage selections to generate masks.

Masking effect: the masked object (i.e. mask) acts on the masked object (i.e. active layer), and the masked object is stored in the form of 8-bit gray channel, where

Black part-completely opaque, the covered object is invisible.

White part-completely transparent, and the covered object is visible.

Gray part-translucent, covered objects are faintly visible.

7.4 Use of masks

1, to form a more complex selection by editing (quick mask, Alpha mask, text mask tool);

The selection specifies a transparent and colorless virtual frame, and the mask is displayed as a gray image in the Channels panel, which can be converted to each other. The advantage of editing a selection as a mask is that you can use almost any Photoshop tool or filter to modify the mask.

2. One part of the control layer is displayed while the other part is hidden (layer mask, vector mask, shape layer, layer grouping).

By changing the layer mask, many special effects can be applied to the layer without affecting the pixels on the layer, and all layer mask can be stored with the multi-layer document.

3, the basic operation of the mask

The basic operation of the mask:

○ Fast shielding mode switching (Q key);

○ Add layer mask or Vector Mask-"Layer" menu;

○ Apply or remove a mask (layer, vector)-Layer menu.

Here is an example to explain in detail how to create a quick mask.

1) Find a photo with the theme highlighting the background. Use any suitable selection tool to select the image part to be modified, in this case, the background, as shown in Figure 8-34.

2) Click the Quick Mask button. You can see that the color of the mask covers the protected area, that is, other areas are not selected, as shown in Figure 8-35.

3) If the mask needs editing, click the brush tool icon or press B to activate the brush, and select the appropriate brush from the brush panel. As shown in figure 8-36.

Because the mask is basically a gray image, the content of the mask is added with a black brush and deleted with a white brush.

4) If you are satisfied with the edited mask, you can click the standard mode at the bottom of the toolbox to return to the original image. Unprotected areas are surrounded by check boxes. As shown in figure 8-37.

5) Now, you can make any modification to the selected area without affecting the masked area.

You might as well spend more time practicing masks, and you can find more paintings to try.

Editor layer mask:

Click the thumbnail of layer mask in the Layers panel to activate the mask. At this point, you will see a mask icon in the small square to the left of the layer thumbnail. This indicates that the mask has been activated. While holding down the Alt key, click the thumbnail of the mask to place it in the work area. Select the painting tool, use the black brush to add the contents of the mask, and use the white brush to delete the contents of the mask.

Delete layer mask:

When we are finished with layer mask or want to start from scratch, we can delete layer mask in two ways. One is to drag the layer mask in the Layers panel directly to the small trash can chart at the bottom of the panel. Or choose layer/move to layer mask, as shown in figure 8-38. The Discard or Apply dialog box pops up, asking whether to discard the mask.

7.5 image synthesis

1, concept definition

The image synthesis introduced here mainly combines channels and layers, channels and channels in one or more images.

Photoshop provides two commands for image synthesis: apply image and calculate.

2. Apply images.

By executing the menu command Image-Apply Image, you can mix the layers and channels of the image with those of the active image.

Step 3 calculate

You can mix two single channels from one or more images by performing the menu operation Image-Operation.

The command interface of operation and application image is very similar, but the function is different. Apply the Image command to select two layers or two channels of the same size in any document, regardless of whether the layers and channels are active or not. Operation commands can only work in gray scale, and the only channel option commands are color channel, Alpha channel and gray channel. If you need a color channel, you must use the Apply Image command.
