On this day, the Tsinghua University Garden was filled with a warm and festive atmosphere. Colorful flags were flying around the auditorium and on the main roads. The slogans in the auditorium read: "Complementary advantages, combining science and art, cultivating innovative talents with comprehensive qualities", "Continuous self-improvement, moral integrity, shouldering the great mission of rejuvenating the country through science and education", "Seizing the historical opportunity across the century, creating World-Class Universities”.

Xu Jialu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Chairman of the Central Committee for the Advancement of Democracy, attended the conference. At 10 a.m., Professor He Meiying, secretary of the school party committee and director of the school committee, announced the start of the ceremony. Everyone stood up and sang the national anthem accompanied by the military band of our school’s student art troupe. Vice Minister of Education Zhou Yuanqing first read out the Ministry of Education’s “Notice on Approving the Merger of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts into Tsinghua University” and “Notice on Wang Mingzhi’s Appointment.”

President and Academician Wang Dazhong read out the school affairs meeting's "Decision on the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts to be renamed "Tsinghua University Academy of Arts and Design" after it was merged into Tsinghua University" and delivered a speech. Wang Dazhong said that the merger of the two universities is another major achievement of the reform of my country's university management system. He stressed that currently all the teachers, students and employees of the school are working hard to build Tsinghua into a world-class university. Professor Wang Mingzhi, the new vice president and dean of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University and former dean of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, also spoke. He fondly reviewed the development history and achievements of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts over the past 40 years since its establishment, and said that all teachers, students and staff of the Academy of Fine Arts will work together and unite closely to carry forward the legacy of the older generation of Tsinghua University and the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts. The fine tradition of entrepreneurs and builders overcomes various difficulties in progress and strives to create new glory for the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University.

Amidst warm applause, Wang Dazhong and Wang Mingzhi unveiled the brand-new Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University.

At the ceremony, Xu Rongkai, Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council, and Xu Xian, member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Secretary of the Education Working Committee and Director of the Municipal Education Commission, also delivered speeches. More than 30 universities and relevant units, including Peking University, sent congratulatory letters, telegrams, or gifts.

More than 20 leaders of fraternal universities, including leaders of relevant departments of the Ministry of Education, heads of the China Artists Association, and President Zhu Qingshi of the University of Science and Technology of China, attended the ceremony.
