This newspaper reported that the "Tsinghua University Central College of Arts and Crafts Merger Ceremony", which has attracted much attention both inside and outside the school, was grandly held in the auditorium on the morning of November 20. More than a thousand people, including leaders from relevant parties, guests from all walks of life, and representatives of teachers, students and staff from various departments of our school, gathered together to celebrate this event of practical and historical significance.

On this day, the Tsinghua University Garden was filled with a warm and festive atmosphere. Colorful flags were flying around the auditorium and on the main roads. The slogans in the auditorium read: "Complementary advantages, combining science and art, cultivating innovative talents with comprehensive qualities", "Continuous self-improvement, moral integrity, shouldering the great mission of rejuvenating the country through science and education", "Seizing the historical opportunity across the century, creating World-Class Universities”.

Xu Jialu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Chairman of the Central Committee for the Advancement of Democracy, attended the conference. At 10 a.m., Professor He Meiying, secretary of the school party committee and director of the school committee, announced the start of the ceremony. Everyone stood up and sang the national anthem accompanied by the military band of our school’s student art troupe. Vice Minister of Education Zhou Yuanqing first read out the Ministry of Education’s “Notice on Approving the Merger of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts into Tsinghua University” and “Notice on Wang Mingzhi’s Appointment.”

President and Academician Wang Dazhong read out the school affairs meeting's "Decision on the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts to be renamed "Tsinghua University Academy of Arts and Design" after it was merged into Tsinghua University" and delivered a speech. Wang Dazhong said that the merger of the two universities is another major achievement of the reform of my country's university management system. It is in line with the current trend of combining science and art and the comprehensive development of university disciplines. It also implements the party's education policy and cultivates students with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical and aesthetics. The need for outstanding talents with good humanistic spirit and creative ability. He stressed that currently all the teachers, students and employees of the school are working hard to build Tsinghua into a world-class university. To this end, we must develop according to the "comprehensive, research-oriented, open" model. Comprehensiveness is the foundation, research is the core, and openness is the vitality of the university. He called on the entire school to work together and make due contributions to building Tsinghua into a world-class university.

Professor Wang Mingzhi, the new vice president and dean of the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University and former dean of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, also spoke. He fondly reviewed the development history and achievements of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts over the past 40 years since its establishment, and said that all teachers, students and staff of the Academy of Fine Arts will work together and unite closely to carry forward the legacy of the older generation of Tsinghua University and the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts. The fine tradition of entrepreneurs and builders overcomes various difficulties in progress and strives to create new glory for the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University.

Amidst warm applause, Wang Dazhong and Wang Mingzhi unveiled the brand-new Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University.

At the ceremony, Xu Rongkai, Deputy Secretary-General of the State Council, and Xu Xian, member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Secretary of the Education Working Committee and Director of the Municipal Education Commission, also delivered speeches. More than 30 universities and relevant units, including Peking University, sent congratulatory letters, telegrams, or gifts.

More than 20 leaders of fraternal universities, including leaders of relevant departments of the Ministry of Education, heads of the China Artists Association, and President Zhu Qingshi of the University of Science and Technology of China, attended the ceremony. The leaders of our school who attended the merger ceremony included Vice Presidents He Jiankun, Hu Dongcheng, and Gong Ke, Deputy Party Secretaries Chen Xi, Hu Xianzhang, and Zhang Zaixing, Chief Accountant Cen Zhangzhi, and former Party Secretary Li Chuanxin. Also present at the ceremony were well-known scholars such as the famous architect Academician Wu Liangyong, the architect Academician Guan Zhaoye, the famous painters Professor Wu Guanzhong and Professor Bai Xueshi, the famous historian Professor Shang Aisong, and the decorative artist Professor Yuan Yunfu.
