From then on, he was out of control and determined to go alone before foreigners crossed the Taklimakan desert. So he set off regardless of the hot weather and immature conditions. During the more than 20 days of trekking in the desert, he experienced the danger of disorientation, lack of food and water, hunger and fainting. He ate flies, mosquitoes and lizards in the desert ... After a lot of hardships, when he was finally rescued by the shepherd, he had only 45 kilograms left from the original 74 kilograms.

Although he failed to cross the Taklimakan desert on foot for the first time, he didn't give up. That winter, with the support of enthusiastic people, Liu Yutian finally crossed the Taklimakan Desert with six camels, becoming the first explorer in the world to cross the "Sea of Death" on foot.

After that, he crossed the Gurbantunggut Desert alone. He almost lost his life in this crossing. In the desert, he was sick, swollen, had a high fever, his feet festered and his boots froze.

He tried to find a hospital on the edge of the desert. The doctor diagnosed him with "septicemia" and suggested cutting off his legs. Liu Yutian said he didn't agree with anything. After studying Chinese medicine, he thinks that diseases can only be cured in the desert. He prepared enough food and water, called two Uighur villagers and asked them to make a stretcher out of wicker and carry him to the wilderness desert.

At that time, the temperature was 40 degrees below zero, and the doctor said it was tantamount to death, but Liu Yutian insisted on going. As a result, he miraculously cured his illness with his unique medical methods and necessary drugs. The doctor looked at Liu Yutian. When he came back, his legs were covered with scars. He kept saying, How is this possible?

Ordinary people can't understand Liu Yutian's behavior. Some people say that he is a "fool" and a "psycho". His wife also divorced him because she couldn't stand his "weird" problems such as sleeping at MINUS 30 degrees.
