The Civil Engineering Experiment Center is a professional teaching experiment and scientific research experiment center for the civil engineering discipline of the School of Civil and Architectural Engineering of Wuhan University. It was established in August 2000 on the basis of the structural laboratory, rock mechanics laboratory, soil mechanics laboratory, construction laboratory, water supply and drainage laboratory of Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering, and the soil mechanics laboratory and building materials laboratory of Wuhan University of Surveying and Mapping Technology. The center currently has four laboratories: engineering structure laboratory, geotechnical mechanics and road and bridge laboratory, engineering construction laboratory, water supply and drainage laboratory. The center has a total area of ??more than 3,700 square meters, with more than 700 instruments and equipment worth 17.58 million yuan, as well as a large number of test tools. Relying on the talent advantages of Wuhan University's disciplines, the center has formed a group of high-level expert teams who grasp the development direction of the center and guide the construction of the center, as well as a high-level experimental teaching team with rich teaching experience. The center adopts a teaching team model of experts, key teachers and experimental technicians. The center currently has 22 full professors (including 15 doctoral supervisors), 31 associate professors (including 1 doctoral supervisor), and 3 senior engineers, forming a well-structured and high-quality group of experts—key teachers— An experimental teaching team composed of teaching assistants. Most of them are active in the front line of theoretical teaching and scientific research. After years of construction and development, the center has achieved fruitful results in experimental teaching and talent training, and has trained a large number of high-quality talents for the country. It has achieved excellent results in previous national digital modeling competitions, structural design competitions and various provincial subject competitions, and many academic papers have been included in the three major searches.

The center offers different types of experiments for four undergraduate majors in two schools, including the School of Civil Architectural Engineering and the School of Water Resources and Hydropower. It also undertakes structural experiment courses for master’s students. In particular, it has undertaken a large number of graduate research experiments for doctoral and master's students.
