Why is the farmer punished?

A farmer saw a hibernating snake in the cold winter. He mistakenly thought it was frozen, so he picked it up, carefully put it in his arms, and warmed it with his warm body. The snake slowly regained consciousness and bit the farmer hard with its sharp fangs, causing him fatal wounds.

When the farmer was dying, he said regretfully: "I saved you with good intentions, why do you want to retaliate with kindness?" The snake said: "Don't forget that I am a snake."

Then the smuggler left without looking back. The farmer regretted deeply and sighed before he died: "I showed mercy to the bad guys and should be punished."
