At the beginning of the new semester, Xiao Yang (pseudonym), a junior in the Department of Electrical and Automotive Engineering of Song Tian University, did not go out to work part-time as before, but chose to work part-time online, so that he could concentrate on his studies and not fail-he never wanted his mother to receive an "academic warning notice" from the college again.

It turns out that Xiao Yang failed in college physics, college computer foundation, circuit analysis and college English (II) next semester. At the beginning of the second semester of sophomore year, Xiao Yang took a make-up exam. Although he passed College English (II), he still failed in the other three courses. "At that time, the counselor gave me a verbal warning. I didn't care either. " At the beginning of the second semester of sophomore year, Xiao Yang failed the make-up exam of College English (III). Xiao Yang didn't realize the seriousness of the situation until the counselor asked him to sign the Student's Academic Warning Notice and fill in his parents' mailing address.

A few days later, Xiao Yang received a phone call from her sister who worked in Guangzhou. It turned out that Xiao Yang's mother thought that her son could not graduate and talked to Xiao Yang's sister after receiving the warning letter from the school through EMS. Xiao Yang is particularly sad. "Before I went to college, I had been getting my certificate at home, but now I have let my mother get a warning."

Being brave after being ashamed, Xiao Yang adjusted his state in the second semester of Senior Two, and retaken two courses: Computer Foundation and Circuit Analysis. Not only that, he also went online to find teaching resources for self-study, and went to the library for self-study early in the morning without classes. Many things happen. In the second semester of Senior Two, he didn't fail the course again, and he also successfully passed the two courses he took again. This semester, he began to take college English (3). School: it is called "warning", but it is actually "concern"

"This practice in our school is called' warning', which is actually a concern for students." Wang Jia, deputy director of the Academic Affairs Office of Song Tian University, said that after students entered the university, their parents paid less attention to their studies than they did in middle school. Some students were not self-disciplined and did not pay attention to their studies, which led to repeated failures in courses and ultimately affected their graduation. For this reason, Song Tian University introduced the "student academic warning" system and formulated the "Administrative Measures for Student Academic Warning in Song Tian College of Guangzhou University (Trial)".

According to the "Measures", students need to take about 24 credits each semester, and those who fail in one semester will be given an oral academic warning. All departments of the college will educate and urge students to strengthen their learning input and improve their learning methods by interviewing or contacting their parents. Where the credits of failing courses in one semester reach more than 12 credits, all departments will give written academic warnings, notify the students themselves and send academic warning notices to their parents. Students who fail the make-up exam within one academic year, and the credits of the failed course reach 16 or a total of 24 credits, which meet the requirements of extending the academic system, can apply for extending the academic system, and can continue to complete their studies after passing the examination of the college, otherwise they will be dismissed.

Results: Since the implementation, the "settlement rate" has obviously decreased.

According to reports, so far, the academic early warning system has been implemented for five years. In the past five years, about 200 students have received academic warnings every semester, accounting for about 3% of the whole school. Wang Jia said that the academic early warning system was welcomed by parents. "If children do not perform well in school, parents will keep abreast of information and supervise students."

Wang Jia told reporters that compared with the data before and after the implementation of the academic early warning system, the degree rate of Song Tian University has improved to a certain extent, but the most effective thing is that the "passing rate of exams" has dropped significantly. Wang Jia said that before the start of the first semester of senior year, the school will take another exam for all the courses that students failed during their college years. This is the "Ming Kao". Before the early warning system was implemented, more than 2,000 people cleared the exam every academic year. After the implementation of the academic early warning system, the "clearance rate" has dropped by nearly half.
