Ferguson looks back on his Manchester United years
After announcing his retirement in the summer of 2013, Sir Alex Ferguson ended his 26-and-a-half-year coaching career at Manchester United. Although he is no longer the focus of the outside world, fans have not forgotten Ferguson. And Ferguson will not completely stay away from football and the Premier League. In his own words: "Football has always been my life".
This weekend, the 2013/14 Premier League season is about to begin. Ferguson took this opportunity to review his past coaching years at Manchester United, especially the construction of the team's youth training culture. The following is the full text:
Football has always been my life. I am honored to be associated with such an absolutely fantastic club as Manchester United.
The fans, the players and my colleagues all contribute to Manchester United’s excellence. We had titles, great players and great goals. We made a lot of incredible plays. I still remember those dramatic reversals with joy. All of this will live on in the club's history and is part of Manchester United's contribution to English football.
A lot has changed since I arrived at Manchester United from Aberdeen in November 1986. Especially the promotion of interests and the degree of exposure. Sometimes an incident during a season or a game can be incredibly magnified and fermented. But overall, English football is in a better position today than it was 27 years ago.
Twenty-seven years ago, leagues, stadiums, and player training were not as perfect as they are today. This limited television broadcasts and fans were not treated correctly. At that time, the government's attitude towards football was very negative. Football's role in the culture of the time fell into the realm of moral corruption. For me and others who play and enjoy football, this statement is undoubtedly a great humiliation.
However, Manchester United, perhaps more than any other club in the Premier League, represents a change in the image of British football. Manchester United has improved football at every level.
Through purchasing and training, Manchester United has top stars, equipped with a perfect stadium and Carrington training base for players and fans. The construction of community culture allows us to have a close connection with local fans. Manchester United has also set a standard for the Premier League that other clubs who want to improve can learn from.
The challenges season after season stimulate us to become better and better. There have never been any challenges in my life. Some are always there, some are recurring. But competition is always healthy, and this is what makes the Premier League different from other leagues in Europe.
You know that no team will let you win easily. The quality and entertainment of Premier League games are improving year by year. Winning titles is becoming increasingly difficult, as is finding the right combination of youth, experience and attitude.
Aside from winning domestic and European titles, what I am most proud of is the development of Manchester United’s youth training culture. This is a good tradition that started with Sir Busby. It has produced iconic players like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Gary Neville. Of course, Manchester United has always had more such players and will have more of them.
In every Manchester United team I have coached, there will be a graduate from Manchester United's youth training. Last season, Manchester United's Under-21s won the Under-21 Premier League title, with eight players coming from within 21 miles of Old Trafford. This is driven by Manchester United's commitment to developing local players as part of its player development programme.
There are many talented players in this country who have been given the right training, a good environment and opportunities to develop. If English football does not benefit from this hard work and club investment, there is no reason why.
I appreciate my last season, not only because Manchester United won the Premier League title for the 13th time, but also because we did not have the blessing of Lady Luck on the way to winning this title.
We chose the right approach. To have the best young players train, live and learn with the best players in the Premier League. The team has a good team performance and a never-give-up attitude. This season we made a comeback and won 29 points in one victory.
The fans also gave us great support and I received countless blessings this season, especially the last game at Old Trafford, which my family and I will never forget.
The Premier League is famous around the world for its passion, fan level and stadium atmosphere. Not just at Old Trafford, but at Goodison Park, St James' Park, Anfield and White Hart Lane, fans have always given the team enthusiastic support. It's part of the history and tradition of English football and has led to today's success.
I will miss all of that, but I will be happy to watch the Premier League continue to develop and deliver better seasons, more good teams, more drama and better stars. .
