The computer starts up with two short beeps

You often hear various "beep" sounds from the small speaker on the chassis when the computer is turned on. In fact, this is the computer sending out information. The meaning of the "beep" sound of different types of BIOS is different. The following lists the meanings of two common BIOS power-on self-test beeps for reference.

AMI BIOS

1 short beep: Memory refresh failed.

2 short beeps: Memory ECC verification error.

3 short beeps: System basic memory (first 64KB capacity) self-test failed.

4 short beeps: System clock error.

5 short beeps: CPU error.

6 short beeps: Keyboard controller error.

7 short beeps: The system real mode is wrong and cannot enter the protection mode.

8 short beeps: Display memory error (such as memory damage).

9 short beeps: Motherboard FlashROM or EPROM verification error (for example, the BIOS is damaged by CIH virus).

1 long 3 short beeps: memory error (for example, memory chip damage).

1 long 8 short beeps: Display system test error (such as poor contact of the monitor data cable or graphics card).

Award BIOS

1 short beep: The system starts normally.

2 short beeps: General error. You should enter CMOSSETUP and reset the incorrect options.

1 long beep and 1 short beep: Memory or motherboard error.

1 long beep and 2 short beeps: Monitor or graphics card error.

1 long beep and 3 short beeps: keyboard controller error.

1 long beep and 9 short beeps: Motherboard FlashRAM or EPROM error (for example, the BIOS is damaged by CIH).

Uninterrupted long "beep" sound: The memory is not inserted properly or the chip is damaged.

Constant beeping: The monitor is not connected to the graphics card.

Repeated short "beep" sounds: The power supply is faulty.

No "beep" sound and no display: the mainboard power is not connected, or the power supply is damaged.
