UnionPay online payment is a bank card online transaction transfer and clearing platform jointly established by China UnionPay and commercial banks.

Since its establishment in 2002, China UnionPay has promoted the nationwide networking of bank cards through a three-step approach.

The first step is universal networking in the same city. Through the city bank card information center, bank cards can be used in the same city in the central city.

The second step is to connect key cities to the Internet. According to the goal of "3 14" proposed by Premier Wen Jiabao (that is, to realize the networked operation and cross-regional use of bank cards in commercial banking systems in more than 300 cities at or above the prefecture level, to realize the cross-bank use of various bank cards in more than 100 cities, and to popularize the unified UnionPay card in more than 40 cities), the cross-bank and cross-regional use of bank cards in key cities will be realized.

The third step, the national network is universal. On the basis of networking in key cities, it will gradually cover cities above prefecture level and county-level cities in developed areas, and extend networking to rural areas through the special service of migrant workers' bank cards.
