What is NLP logical hierarchy?

The logical hierarchy is arranged by Robert Dilts, a master of natural language processing, according to the logical hierarchy of learning and change proposed by anthropologist Gregory Bateson. Logical hierarchy is one of the most influential theories in the development of natural language processing.

Dilts's logical hierarchy theory holds that in any system, people's lives, including the activities of the system itself, can be described and understood through several different levels, which are: environment, behavior, ability, beliefs and values, identity and spirit.

-Spirit: Your relationship with other systems in the whole world. (the meaning of life)

-Identity: In what capacity do you realize the meaning of life? Who am I and how will I spend my life?

-Faith: What beliefs and values should be matched with identity. (Why, what's the point)

-Ability: What are my different options? What skills have I mastered? Do you understand how to do it? )

-Behavior: What we do in the environment. What did you do? Did you do it? )

-Environment: external conditions and obstacles. (time, place, other people, other things)

The first level, when, where, who, what, what? Environmental factors determine the scope and conditions of human activities.

The second level is about personal behavior and activities. What did the individual do in the environment?

The third level involves strategies, skills and abilities, which individuals use to guide their actions in the environment.

The fourth level: all the above levels are shaped by beliefs and values. Abilities and skills provide support for various behaviors in the environment, while beliefs and values provide motivation and guidance for skills and abilities-why people do things in a specific way in a specific environment. Beliefs and values provide a reinforcing process that supports our specific abilities or behaviors. Beliefs and values determine how we give meaning to things.

The fifth level: beliefs and values support personal identity-that is, what to do at a certain time and place, how to do it, why to do it, and so on. Identity is expressed through a series of prioritized beliefs and values; These beliefs and values are supported by broader skills and abilities, which in turn show special beliefs and values; Efficient ability produces a wider range of specific behaviors and activities, which are completed in many specific environments and conditions, and realizes the maintenance and pursuit of beliefs and values.

The sixth level: the identity level involves people's vision and the larger system to which they belong. System is a higher level, which we call spiritual level. This level involves people's cognition of the larger system they belong to and their activities. These understandings profoundly answer the questions of "for whom" and "for what" of human activities, and provide profound significance and purpose for people's behavior, ability, beliefs and values and identity positioning.

My understanding and introduction of logical level (understanding level)

The origin of logical hierarchy

The logical level of learning and change was first put forward by anthropologist Gregory Bateson (1904- 1980) as the psychological mechanism of behavioral science, which is based on Russell's logic and mathematical theory (1872- 1970). Later, it was developed by Robert Dilts and introduced in 1990.

Batson identified four basic levels of learning and change-each level contains elements from the next level, and each level will have a greater impact on individuals, organizations or systems from bottom to top.

For Gregory Bateson, logical types are "laws of nature" rather than simple mathematical principles. He said: A muscle composed of a group of cells and a single cell belong to different logical types-the characteristics of the brain and a brain cell are not the same logical type. The two can influence each other through indirect reaction-that is, the overall function of the brain can affect the behavior of a single brain cell, and the activity of a single brain cell also supports the overall function of the brain. In fact, it can be understood that a brain cell affects itself through a brain composed of other cells.

Logical hierarchy refers to the hierarchical relationship between different levels in which various activities in an individual or organization are located. The function of each level is to synthesize, organize and guide the relationships of its subordinates. High-level changes will inevitably "radiate" downward, thus producing corresponding changes at the low level. Changes at a lower level may (but not necessarily) affect higher levels.

The neurological level consists of the following neurophysical structure "levels":

Environment: Nerve ending system-sensory and reflex functions.

Behavior: motor nervous system-conscious behavior.

Ability: cerebral cortex system-semi-conscious behavior (eye movement, posture, etc. ).

Beliefs and values: limbic system and autonomic nervous system-unconscious reactions (such as heart rate control and pupil changes).

Identity: immune system and endocrine system-the whole nervous system, which is deeply life-sustaining.

Spirit (system): it is all-round-each individual's nervous system is combined to form a larger system.

Logical level (understanding level)

When is the environment? Where (when)? (where)

Refers to people, things, things, time, scenery and other external conditions other than themselves.

What does behavior do? (what)

Refers to our activities in the environment, such as walking, drinking water and smiling.

What about ability? (How)

It refers to the active choice or control method I have in the current environmental things, or how to get the choice or control method that I lack in the current environmental things. For example, when I see a cup, I can choose to drink water or not, or how to drink water, or not to drink water.

What are beliefs and values? (why)

Refers to the standards or criteria we use to judge people, things and things. For example, drinking water is not good at this time. Why is this a bad time?

Identity. Who is it? (WHO)

The point is "who am I now". I sat under the platform in class, and now I am a student. When I eat at home, I sit at the table. Now I am a member of this family.

Who does the spirit (system) affect?

It is my relationship with the world (people, things, things, etc.). ), and different people, things and things in the world echo each other and have a far-reaching influence. Taking the introduced logical level (cognitive level) as a wedge, when environment+behavior+ability+belief, values+identity are integrated and called spirit (system), subtle changes at the top level will affect the following five levels, such as "butterfly effect". Among the different levels below, only when the level changes dramatically can it affect the higher level, such as the "monkey effect".

In NLP, environment, behavior and ability are called the lower three levels, which we can realize, while beliefs/values, identity and spirit (system) are called the higher three levels, which need to be carefully analyzed in our daily life to be discovered. Usually, low-level problems are easy to find at a higher level, but if we look for methods at the same level or at a lower level, the effect is often unsatisfactory or the consumption experience is too great.

For example:

interpersonal relationship

The spirit (system) is a dull life.

He is a low-income working class.

Beliefs/values are not happy at all. Everything needs money now.

I don't even know what to do.

Doing nothing all day.

The environmental life circle is too small.

"High-level influences low-level", when the belief/value level is 0, many things can be happy at the same time with little or no money. The following ability may be that there are many ways to make yourself happy, to act and to do some happy things, and the environmental life is full of happiness.

The relationship between two people

The fate of spiritual (systematic) love is bumpy.

A person whose identity and feelings are frustrated

Belief/Values He doesn't love me, and he is always reluctant to spend money for me.

When I am angry, he doesn't know how to coax me.

He doesn't call me often, or even send me text messages.

Environmental friends often discuss my relationship with him quietly.

The spirit (system) composed of "environment+behavior+ability+belief/values+identity" affects itself. When the next five layers of data are superimposed and integrated, the relationship between them will eventually be unsatisfactory.

A relationship of more than three people

A company with strict spiritual (institutional) management

Identity: A person with a heavy burden.

For the sake of children and living expenses, we should stick to our beliefs/values.

Ability is really helpless.

Going to work every day is like fighting a war.

People in the surrounding environment are often oppressed by the supervisor.

The superposition of low-level forces leads to changes in the upper level. When the spirit (system) level is a company with strict management, when the people oppressed by the bottom account for a certain proportion of the company (assuming that the company has 100 people and 60 people have opinions), it will naturally affect the attention of the company's directors and senior executives, and the company may hold meetings or adjust some plans or systems to achieve the overall balance point. This is the view of overall balance, and the imbalance at the psychological (system) level is induced by hidden interests.

At present, the logical level (understanding level) is the strongest way I know to sort out my thinking. When we are confused about a problem, it will be easier for us to find solutions and breakthroughs by combing our thinking at the logical level (understanding level).

Example: someone has been unable to find a girlfriend, and after sorting out his thoughts, he finds that all his friends around him have girlfriends. Now he doesn't know what to do. He can't find a girlfriend His beliefs/values are not handsome and he has no money, so no one loves his identity. A person who dare not fall in love systematically is a world without love. When combing these six levels of thinking, he arranged, redefined and acted from high to low, and systematically became a person who knew how to love. Many people have no money and no image, but some people still love to know how to love and find a girlfriend in the way they have learned.

Let me remind you that NLP has many skills and moves, but the only constant is its essence. It's as changeable as the weather, but when we know why it's raining or sunny, we just need to take an umbrella at the right time. ^ ^
