Introduction to the Xi'an City Wall

The Xi'an City Wall is the iconic landscape of the ancient capital of Xi'an and one of the most complete ancient city walls in China. It is about 14 kilometers long and was built on the basis of the imperial city of the Tang Dynasty. It includes a series of facilities such as moats and turrets.

Xi'an An City Wall, also known as Xi'an Anming City Wall, is a 13.7-kilometer-long Ming Dynasty building. It was started in the third year of Hongwu (1370), the emperor of the Ming Dynasty, and completed in the eleventh year of Hongwu (1378). It was built on the basis of the imperial capitals of the Sui and Tang Dynasties under the guidance of Ming Taizu's policy of "building high walls, accumulating grain, and slowly becoming king". Later, Zhu Yuanzhang, Taizu of the Ming Dynasty, canonized his second son Zhu Shang as King of Qin and granted him the title of the same city as his mansion. Therefore, the city is large and strong. It was repaired and built many times during the Ming and Qing Dynasties and is still well preserved today. In early 2004, during the construction of the city wall road project in the Hanguangmen section of Xi'an, the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Heritage Research Institute was entrusted by relevant departments to cooperate with the project and conducted an archaeological survey of the exposed section of the city wall. It is found that its structure is complex, spanning from the Sui and Tang Dynasties to modern times, it was built five times by Japan. It has great historical value.
