San Miguel de la Palma is an island in the Canary Islands in the North Atlantic Ocean and belongs to the province of Santa Cruz, Spain. Area: 728 square kilometers (281 square miles). In the middle, there is the Taburiente crater (10 kilometers [6 miles] in diameter), which has been designated as a national park. It produces bananas, tomatoes, tobacco and embroidery. It also has a very famous active volcano Complivia. . Historical data records that Complivia has erupted many times over thousands of years. In 1949, it erupted and produced strange phenomena. A two-kilometer-long crack appeared along the back of the mountain. This is how this phenomenon of volcanic fault sliding occurs. Deep below, scientists discovered that there is actually water in the volcano. So what is the structure inside Palma Island? Over thousands of years, rainwater seeped in but the magma cooled to form hard stone walls, like dams. When a volcano erupts, the water expands and creates huge pressure.
