What are the disadvantages of receiving fragmented knowledge through platforms such as Weibo, WeChat and Zhihu for a long time?

All the information you receive constitutes your way of thinking. Therefore, the consequence of long-term acceptance of fragmented information is that the mind becomes narrow and it is difficult to think complex. Fragment information usually has the following characteristics: they are often a collection of facts rather than logic, and they often greatly simplify the derivation process.

They tend to simplify multiple paths into one path.

They are often not rigorous and comprehensive.

In short, in order to achieve the goal of easy access, fragmented information usually significantly reduces cognitive costs, and the most obvious way is to simplify complex things. They often tell you only the superficial things, but don't tell you the principle behind them and the connection with other things.

What we call "knowledge" consists of two parts: one is "fact" (or "idea") and the other is "connection". Facts are points, and connections are lines connecting points. The network they form is our knowledge structure.

Facts determine the breadth of your knowledge, and connections determine the depth of your knowledge. If you understand the relationship between things, even if you only know ABC, you can draw DE or even F according to the internal logic of the three. This process is called thinking. But if you don't understand their internal logic, even if you know ABCDE, you can't get F-you don't know that they need to be put together, and you don't know what kind of internal logical relationship they can present when they are put together.

This is the disadvantage of fragmented information. When we accept debris information, we are actually expanding "facts" rather than increasing "connections". In the long run, our knowledge structure will become a floating point diagram: isolated knowledge points float in various positions, but there is no network to connect them in order.
