Together with Padua, it forms the Greater Padua-Venice area (population: about1600,000), also known as the Queen of Adriatic Sea, Water City, Mask City, Bridge City, Floating City and Canal City. Luigi Barzini once described it as "undoubtedly the most beautiful man-made city" in The New York Times, and Times Online praised Venice as one of the most romantic cities in Europe. 1980 became a sister city in Suzhou, China on March 24th.
