Can you lend me a lawyer's letter?

It works. A lawyer's letter is a kind of advance notice, indicating that the other party to your dispute is ready to file a lawsuit against you.

If you don't want to go to court, discuss with the other party how to solve it after receiving the lawyer's letter. You can refuse to sign a lawyer's letter, or even not talk to the opposing lawyer, but this may lead to your subsequent court summons.
