Can traditional Chinese characters be used as house numbers?
Article 13 of the Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) on Common Languages and Characters stipulates that standardized Chinese characters are the basic service characters in the public service industry. Signs, advertisements, notices, signboards, etc. that use foreign languages and Chinese characters for public services at the same time should use standardized Chinese characters.
The so-called standardized Chinese characters include simplified characters. In other words, you can't use signs with traditional Chinese characters in public places outside your home. If you just use them for your own viewing, that's another matter. But why do we have to use traditional Chinese characters?
