The Anti-Japanese War Model Village in Baiyu Village

During the Anti-Japanese War, Baiyu Village was a model anti-Japanese village and launched a fierce struggle against the Japanese invaders. Liu Yukun, the anti-Japanese hero and captain of the Wanping County Brigade, who frightened the Japanese and puppet troops, was from Baiyu. He is highly skilled in martial arts and can shoot flying birds with his hand. He attacks the enemy everywhere with a mysterious appearance. Lin Zitai's ambush of the Japanese officer corps became a legend in the Pingxi Anti-Japanese Base Area. He is agile and can walk on the mountain road like flying. He can attack continuously overnight. The four gun towers made the Japanese and puppet troops panic all day long. They had no choice but to write such a slogan in front of his house, "Haha, you are such a big-nosed Liu who can run!" It still exists today. The tomb of martyr Liu Yukun, inscribed by Comrade Jiao Ruoyu, has been designated as the patriotic education base of Zhaitang Town.

During the Anti-Japanese War, the outstanding sons and daughters of Baiyu Village, Cuandixia Village and Huanglingxi Village formed the Huangling West Platoon, which will remain in history, and fought bravely against the Japanese invaders. At that time, Baiyu Village was burned down ten times by the Japanese and puppet enemies. On other occasions, dozens of people died heroically or were killed by enemy invaders. After the "July 7" Marco Polo Bridge Incident in 1937, Liu Yukun from Baiyu Village began to devote himself to the cause of anti-Japanese and national salvation. In 1938, he served as director of the Baiyu Village Anti-Japanese Salvation Association and director of the patrol station. In the spring of 1939, the guerrilla force in Wanping County (now Mentougou District) was established. The personnel of the patrol station were organized into the third squadron. Liu Yukun was appointed as the squadron leader and later the captain of the county guerrilla brigade. In October 1939, he led his troops to encounter the 300-day puppet troops who came to mop up the troops in Changcao Village, Fangshan. He commanded the battle calmly and tactfully, confusing the enemy, and then led the troops to move safely. One day in the autumn of 1940, he led the guerrillas to attack the Japanese and puppet troops who invaded Baiyutai. They pursued them for more than ten miles and forced the Japanese and puppet troops to flee back to their Zhaitang stronghold in embarrassment. Once, he led a transport team composed of more than 20 guerrillas and more than 100 militiamen to overthrow the Japanese stronghold in Yanjiatai Village and seize all the newly transported trucks of military supplies. In June 1943, he led the guerrillas in an ambush in Linzitai Village, killing and wounding more than 30 Japanese officers and soldiers who were going from Yanhe City to the Zhaitang stronghold. Due to long-term hard struggle, he became ill from overwork and suffered from lung disease. In the winter of 1943, he led the guerrillas to eliminate two enemy strongholds in Louling and Shihe. On the way back to his base, he vomited blood and died in the mountains behind Baiyu Village.
