Is English still the main subject in 2023?

Educational policies are constantly reforming, and new curriculum standards will be officially launched in the autumn semester in September. The double reduction policy has been officially implemented for nearly a year in 2023. The purpose is to relieve students' learning pressure and solve the increasingly serious involution problem. If the involution continues, I am afraid it will violate the original intention of education. Now more emphasis is placed on students being able to adapt to society in the future and achieve all-round development in school.

We know that the process of learning Chinese requires a lot of recitation, and learning English also requires students to recite a lot of words. It is too stressful for students to learn two subjects well at the same time.

This new curriculum adjustment will adjust Chinese to account for more than 20%, and the country will re-emphasize the study of Chinese traditional culture. The status of English has also been significantly reduced, accounting for only 6 to 8, and mathematics accounts for more than 13. It seems that although it is impossible to cancel English, the status of English will indeed decline.

Changing the English subject from major to minor does not mean withdrawing from the examination stage.

There have been strong calls for the abolition of English, but as an international language, English must be learned if you want to go abroad. Future social development also needs to be in line with international standards. English is a lingua franca. Although we do not go abroad, we will still be affected by international information.

English needs to be used many times, especially for high-end talents. If they want to be exposed to academic research from various countries in the future, they also need to be able to understand English, otherwise it will slow down the entire research progress.

Learning English does not mean worshiping foreigners. Our current cultural self-confidence does not need to deny the learning of English. Blindly belittling foreign cultures is a sign of lack of confidence. In addition to understanding our own culture, we also need to understand other countries. If we can make good use of English, we can also do meaningful things for the spread of Chinese culture in the future.
